Mpc 3000 CF reader help

I just bought an external cf reader drive and i cant get the 3000 to recognize it. I do not have the vallixi o.s. but its on the way as we speak so... I guess my question is does the 3000 need the vallixi o.s. For the SCSI to recognize this device or is it something else?

By default, MPC3000 machines need to "Format" the connected external SCSI devices before they are able to "Recognize" them.
