Import MPC samples thru a laptop

I am interested in getting an MPC3000. I started learning it and just love the timing and the feel of it ( I just use to using FL Studio and a bunch of plugins). Well I was wondering how I can put my WAV files in a zip drive thru my laptop. I got tons of drum samples I want to know how I have to format the Zip Disk what file format do I have to convert my WAV files so the MPC3000 can read them. I know this is possible but I'm wondering how this is possible. I want to use the MPC3000 as my main sequencer and my drum machine but I'm going to use my laptop as my sound module.

I don't have a 3000, but it's likely the same as other MPC's in that you want to format the zip in the MPC. I know on the 2000 series if you format the zip in the PC the MPC won't read it. You'll need to convert your WAV files to Akai's old .SND format, Awave is probably a good choice. MPC Editor as mentioned above is worth the price too.

You'll need an external USB Zip Drive to copy the .PGM's to the Zip, but if you don't have one, they're cheap and much easier to find than their SCSI counterparts. Speaking of SCSI, if you're going to use a 3000 full time, an external SCSI hard drive is probably something you should check out. Zips have proven unreliable long term, and you'd also escape their 1000MB limit.

Not onlly is MPCEditor much cheaper than Awave , it also allows you to format disks that can be read by both the MPC and PC. I'd recommend it over Awave for MPC related stuff.

I was thinking the shareware version of Awave might do the trick for him. But yeah if you're gonna spend a few dollars MPC Editor is excellent.

I didnt know they started making a cut down version. Thanks for the info. I had a look at the file formats it handles and the cut down version(or shareware version) doesn't appear to handle any Akai files at all, it's all computer related file formats it converts between.
Looks like you need the $130 Awave studio - not the shareware Awave Audio ,for synth and sampler related stuff.
