I could use your help...

Hey guys what's up!! I'm a VO guy whose midi setup has been collecting dust. I really enjoyed making tracks but just got to busy making a living. Ready to get my 3000le tuned up and a need some advice. So here are the questions I have.

1. My screen is dull. Anyone have any experience with the backlight replacement or new LCD. Your thoughts on quality and DIY ease would be appreciated.

2. Sounds. I've seen the available zips for purchase on ebay and a few websites. I prefer fat, clean single hits....not vinyl samples. (background: I have Battery 3, Logic, Reason 4 and I enjoy the ability to fine tune drumkits. But internal sounds are the way for me.)

3. My 3000le has an internal floppy, heard about cf reader, switching to zip, using externals. Need help with that...The answer to question #2 should be considered I imagine.

FYI...I'll be using the MPC with a Novation remote, Fantom XR, XV-5080, and a JP 8080.

It's been covered several times around here already. If you use the forum search function you'll find loads of info.

1. I've seen the backlight online for $60 in the US, $34 abroad. Was wondering if there were other distributors I may not be aware of. Also noticed an lcd replacement for $290 that I was hoping to find cheaper.

2. The questions is what's the best alternative for fat clean single hit sounds. I pointed out the software I have so they wouldn't be suggested. As mentioned, I'd like to use internal sounds here on out.

3. As far as the cf reader, floppy question, I assume the recommendation on sounds would have an effect on what type of disk drive I'd use. Currently have an internal floppy, and an external zip. Open to an upgrade.

Why do you need the LCD ? They rarely fail .
If it's just that the screen is dim then you need a backlight.
The backlight prices you've quoted are average. I doubt you'll find them cheaper.
The backlights are pretty much the same no matter where you get them. Remember that if you purchase from abroad you'll pay more in shipping and customs charges and shipping will likely be longer. Also if there is a fault or you've been sent the wrong item or something returns will take longer and cost more.

Most people around here are making/recording their own sounds.
Sources tend to be records, sample cd's, drum machines, synths and getting out a mic and banging things. Your imagination is the limit.

You can run the floppy , Zip drives ,CF readers, hard drives, CD roms, Jaz drives and probably some others I'm forgetting all at the same time.You can have up to 7 SCSI devices in a chain.
If you intend to buy sounds in a particular format , then keep that kind of drive around.
From what I've seen most commercial Sample sets for the MPC60 come on Floppy or Zip.
You might want to keep your zip and floppy drive and add a Card Reader to use like a hard drive for saving songs and samples/kits you create.
What ever media you are using , try to have the same type of drive in your computer for backing up.
