It's the operating system, sound, interface, they are all top notch.

If the 60 didn't have the 3000 OS upgrade I'd be on the 3k, but I like the 12 bit so I don't need it.

It was made by and for professionals, stock 8 outs and limited effects standard. 32 MB's, it's in another class than the 2k's.

Means that 2K's aren't made by Pro :) ?! Nah! Word is that when AKAI decided to released a new mpc model they wished to hit more custumer than with the 60/3000... So they cames out with a more affordable unit, that allow you to upgrade to the same options that come with top 'o' the line products...
Tru the 3000's strong building as nothing to compare with those 2Ks small plastic parts  !!! But once you fully upgrade it anything a 3K do a 2KXL do it! It have even "better" (up-to-date) features such as compatibility with .wav format, waves form, chromatic assign, screen, much more FX when EB-16 added, and so... It's a newer machine, in a more "workstation" way.
Coming straight with all features sounds way more professional than having to by all those options after you've bought the unit, true.
But S1000 cames out with 8 outputs, Aux send/return so you can connect ANY FXRACK OF YOUR CHOICE (it could be a Lexicon, that kills 3K's FX :D ); mine is 32Mo; digital i/o; SCSI straight!!! I would not say it's another class then an S3000, it's just two different products :D . I love my S1K bad an never will trade it for a S3000 (XL) but S3000 was just a newer standard... Such as MPC3000 and 2000, that now are both ol' Akai's MPCs   !!!
But we well know on this forum, elmacaco is a REAL60 Fan :D !

Big up & respect from W.I.
