i know i bring this up often.....EQ and KICK Drum samples

EQ on kick drum samples... most difficult thing is getting them to sound full bodied and deep. i usually underly them with sub bass but in some cases you just want the deep sound to come from the body of the drum sample and ride underneath a groovy bass sample. anybody know best methods for boosting a kicks frequencies to their optimal aural potential. Also tips for compressing drums so they look like triangles...can someone explain that to me?
