MPC 60/3000 "new" storage media

OK, got a reply from him. He needs an image of the floppy drive from the mpc 3000... I´m still waitin for mine to come, so could somebody maybe upload or send me a pic from his mpc 3000 floppy, so I can send it to him?

This is interesting news. Those floppy emulators are pretty cheap, and if they can be installed without any fuss, well, I'm sold.

I'm curious though, would you mind explaining how do you deal with the files at the computer end? How does the Mac or PC "see" the 99 floppies and how do you copy sounds back and forth?

I am not aware that someone experimented with Sp-1200 & usb floppy converter yet.
I think best way would be 2 contact Gotek's product specialist & ask them.
Be prepared to provide them floppy images of s 950 & sp1200.
They have tons of hybrid drives & combos; chances are that they may provide you a right drive model with firmware update for your machines.

Need to hear more about your findings gilles ! Especially jumper settings and media brand you use. I'm going to test this on 3000.

Grabbed three and powder coated them black. Its a real good alternative to the floppy. Highly recommended upgrade.

installed the gotek drive in my mpc, changed no jumper settings (there are two on the back)

on the delivered mini cd i ran sfd v1.23 for win xp (sft standard edition)

selected my usb disk, then floppy type 720k (SELECT DOS bootable disk, or else windows will only see 720k intotal on your usb stick, as opposed to 720k per folder)

it is very quick - about 2 seconds lol....this creates folder 001 on the usb stick

I just copied all of world_bt.zip from roger linn (program file and snd files) over to folder 001 on the stick

then placed disk in mpc, selecting 01 on the usb drive....and the mpc sees it when you press disk load...

couldnt be easier really.....

to create new folders on your stick....enter the desired foler number, eg 02, 03, on your usb reader, and then enter your stick...the folder will be created automatically

to save press the left button so d1 appears...this removes the read only property of the folder in the mpc
after saving in the moc, press the right button again , d2, takes about 6 secobnds to complete process

I want to install a floppy emulator in my 3000, and after reading all the thread again i don't see why it wouldn't work.

I recently bought an Akai S900 and have one of the USB Floppy Emulators lying around from an older project (Yamaha PSR1000).

From what I gathered in this thread after re-reading it a few times: Is it pretty much guaranteed to not work with the S900?

The USB emulator unit I have is very similar to the Ipcas model: http://www.ipcas.com/products/usb-floppy-emulator-fdd-to-udd.html

Mine has the jumpers in different places on the circuit board but looks the same from the outside, minus the logo.

I installed it with the jumper on the USB unit set to 720kb and formatted my 1gig USB stick with 100 720kb partitions using the program provided on the Ipcas website.

The unit shows "00" when I plug in the USB and Im able to scroll through the various disks, but when I try to format any of the disks on the Akai it says "Oops" Disk not present" or something to that effect.

Am I out of luck with this drive? Are there any of these types of drives out there that will work with the S900? Or do I just need to format the USB Stick properly to get it to work?

It might be a good idea to keep this thread on topic, and focused on the 60 and 3000 otherwise people will start getting confused about what works and what doesn't.

By all means take the info provided here and try it out with other samplers, but there is another dedicated forum for that.

What works has been confirmed, including the correct USB floppy emulator. Try it, if it doesn't work try something else or go with the HxC emulator.

Just followed those steps but when i am tryin to format the usb stick, the 001 folder is not created..
Any ideas?

I hope this might help you;

1. Don't format the usb stick in mpc, format it in pc.
2. When done, you can either create 001 folder manualy in pc, or
press on usb drive 01, wait the USB drive screen to load usb stick partition,
afterward, save from mpc your sounds following the usb emulators saving procedure.
