It may seem that way, but you're looking at a product that is handmade and requires a degree of skilled workmanship to craft. Add the fact that Walnut is not a cheap material to begin with and you realise ROI isnt that great at all. How many hours you think it takes to make a set? And what is a reasonable hourly wage for your LABOUR?

Sure you could make a cheaper set, using cheap tools and materials plus FREE LABOUR for all the work you put in. Plus you lose out on economies of scale, one set costs more to build than five sets. Quality custom work will never be CHEAP.

Also, it is a different situation doing it for yourself as a hobby, as opposed to trying to do things to sell as a business, there are a whole lot more costs involved if you are trying to do it for a living.

costs go down if you do it more
i don't remember where, but i've seen wood panels for the 3k at about 100 usd (and i guess the premium for walnut over another hard wood is not 200 on those small bits)
