Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

i have a really dim backlight.. bought a new el-foil to replace it with. soldered the connections and its still dim. im guessing my old backlight may still be good but it may not have been getting power to it? i'm not sure. could the inverter be the problem? and if so how difficult is it to replace? :?

Hi, are you sure you have soldered the foil correctly? Did the light go on and off before you changed the foil?

i'm pretty sure i soldered it correctly. if i didnt, wouldn't i just get a blank screen? or would it still just show me a dim display? i havent seen a light at ALL. it was dim before (with the old foil) and once i soldered in the new foil it looks exactly the same.

i know it's almost impossible.... but
did you try to turn the backlight knob that is on the left side next to the the screen
on/off ?

It sounds like you need to replace the inverter. I had replaced a backlight screen before and had the same result it wasn't until I checked the inverter to see it wasn't putting out diddley squat for voltage i realized the backlight was fine and it was the Inverter that was shot! I would replace the inverter they are not that expensive.... Get back to us after you do that but i bet it fixes the issue there isnt that many things it can be! :wink:

More like 3-5volts going to the backlight. It can be pretty hard to locate an inverter sometimes. If you can't there are cheap external usb el foil inverters that can hold you over until you find a replacement. I did that because looking at a dark screen sucks!

No, as he said, more like 130VAC peak-peak (92VAC RMS) going to the backlight, from the inverter.

5VDC going to the backlight inverter.
