So.......
Finally got around to sorting this out today , and it turns out it that everything this gentleman said was spot on
He replaced the inverter, and serviced the machine clearing up some other smaller issues for free.
Also he noticed and pulled out the stock ram which had not been removed after a previous owner upgraded to 32mb.
After testing back at the studio, some weird timing issues when recording have totally cleared up and the machine is faster and way more responsive than before.
So happy that my 3000 is working better than I expected before today, one very satisfied customer.
This guy really knows his stuff annd is a straightforward good bloke to deal with, I highly recommend him to any 3000 or 60 owners with tech issues.
Cheers

White stuff is glue to prevent high v caps vibrating
Extra cable is the remains of the original EL foil wire (2pin)
I know this because the plug space is occupied by an unofficial plug associated with a good replacement foil kit.
The old (extra cable) is only there because the previous owner didn't fancy chopping the cable ties that link it to the other wires.
Due to the flickering and new type foil I suspect it is only an inverter issue.
Maybe a dead inverter or damaged pcb/track.
Don't panic it's an easy fix and whilst it's done we can remove the stay cables and give her an mot check for your piece of mind.
I have pm'd you my number
Should be a whilst you wait and drink tea job.
All the best
