Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have to admit my early days using the 909 was very naive. I see what you're all saying now.
909's internal sequencer is fantastic and is my preferred approach.
My MPC was also not firing notes at times, which was pretty aggravating.
MisterWhite, thanks for the tip, I'll try the din sync set up you proposed. Been following a few MSQ100 & 700's on eBay. I might also try the Kenton Pro as someone else had suggested. Depends on the funds.
