My 1st MPC 60, Some questions

I've been using an mpc 2000 since they first came out, had a 2500 and 4k.. ended up dumping them all as time went on, went to software.. but I missed using the mpc series, way more inspiring vs abelton, geist, Ni Maschine (still have) etc..

I was trolling craigslist and found a maxed out MPC 60 mk1 , max ram, SCSI, and 3.10 software with all manuals including the 3.10 manual, zip drive with a bazzlion zip disks and floppies.. Super clean not a scratch, even came with a hard case as well ..
I paid 500 bucks (decent deal?), only thing is the back light is out..

I kinda of like the blue colored one, but are they any option for different colors? orange/blue/green etc... ?

should I be looking for the no soldering required ones?

There are so many options on ebay when selecting a back light, I am not sure which way to go.. I also noticed some guy on here selling custom ones.

No you can't really change the colour of the display, new backlights make the screen look a lot different than a jaded one. Some will make the screen look green while others will make it look closer to white. The MPC60II display colour (white text on blue) is different from the OG model (black text on green) but same as the MPC3000. Some people don't realise this unless they have both.

There are coloured backlights out there, but I'd advise you to stick with the original scheme and keep that machine OG . Post some pics when you get a chance...

1st, it sounds great! I exspected it I sound like my 950 but it doesn't, totally has it's own vibe.
I have a couple user questions.
Compression, there no feedback after processing, so I can't tell if I can keep compressing it over and over again. Doesnt sound like it is, but I am not sure.
No filters (bummer) I tried a moog low pass filter (MF 101 - mono) on the sends but it seems it needs to be a stereo signal, or perhaps I could use a Y cable? Also it seems to process the whole mix, is there anyway to assign specific snd's ? I know I could filter in the way in, but I usually like to eq/filter in relation to what's already going on.

The rest, I think I just need to read the manual.

If you don't want to filter the whole mix, send what you want to an individual output, and connect the filter to that output.

Nice one, if the filer is mono out will it only play on one channel on the return?
Also I assume, to not have the snd I am processing in parallel , I would turn down the snd from main mix out ?

Yes, yes.

Or, if running the MPC into a mixer, you would send the output of the filter into the mixer, and control the level and panning from there.

Oh bottom left that's not a tear in the luxurious leather (it's spotless), it's a piece of hair from my mangy mutt. Yes I do think a mixer is in order or I guess I could just do it ITB, who knows, I gotta fiddle around. dude even had his original receipt for the SCSI/Mem and OS upgrades. Any 8 channel small foot print mixer (GOOD EQ) you would suggest.. just so I don't have to deal with latency w/ daw plugs.

Ok enough questions.. :

You could just use a y-cable, to send the mono output of the filter into the stereo effects return input of the MPC, in the meantime.
