EMAX I & MPC-60II

EL assisted me this afternoon with the EMAX and MPC-60 combo. I'm having difficulty getting my samples on the EMAX to cut themselves off instead they continue to overlap. Is anyone familiar with this function and if so how can I adjust the sample preset? Grazie.

Got it.

You need to go to analog processing, select the sample you want to cut itself off as the low and high, then go to Keyboard mode with the data slider (number 21 on my OS), you want solo set to on, leave nontranspose off. Now it is essentially in mono mode. Be careful since any and all samples you select in analog processing will effectively become monophonic, so If you select the whole range of pads, you will only be able to play one note, since any other sample will cut off the rest. So it can take you down to one note polyphony. But you can do this with one note or a group of notes, say kick snare by hitting change voice in analog processing and defining a new range of samples, so if you got them spread on the pads chromatically, you can have the lowest two cut each other off, while the rest ring out and don't cut themselves off. This in use with the release and sustain levels set high will give you a one shot / mono effect, which seems to be what you are after.

Man, the emax really has it, I thought for a while it couldn't be done, but there it is and it's very flexible, although peculiar in implementation.

brilliant - absolutely brilliant! EXACTLY what I was aiming for. I was curious to know if I were to change the channel output assignment would that correct the cutoff for each sample in a range or whatever you were yielding me from....? For example: The SP1200 only cuts off samples that lie on the same channel output. If a kick is on 6 and the snare on 7 the samples will not cut one another off. Same thing goes for the S950. For some odd reason the MPC-60 does not work in this manner- hence the 2 pad cutoff assignment in SOUNDS (2)

I see that as an improvement. man would it suck if the 60 cut off samples assigned to a single output.

Yes, I believe this is true in dynamic allocation mode, I haven't tried it, but you caught me at a moment where I am getting really into the exax and rocking it, so I just might try it to see if it works.

I see the solo thing as the perfect solution, you set it per sample or per group of samples, wonderful!

i also noticed something along this line on the s950... i was trying to get the notes to cut off as in the Mono mode on my MPC60, and i could never get it, this was using the STEREO OUTPUTS... months later when i finally got a mixer, i was using the INDIVIDUAL OUTPUTS for routing seperate samples into the mixer, and then the samples would cut off eachother... so i guess you can do this by utilizing the correct outputs, the STEREO L&R do not cut off, the 8 INDIVIDUAL OUTPUTS will cut off the same sample...
