my 3000 froze for the first time!

i was just chopping up some drums and i had about two banks filled with stuff. i was just trimming up a sample following my usual routine, then when i pressed delete before soft start, the mp just froze up saying 'deleting zone' and i had to shut it down. it happened once before but i waited about half minute and the mpc unfroze itself but didnt do it this time. is this a common bug? if i get a new os rom chip, will it fix it or is it hardware related? thanks in advance

I have only seen this once, and I was able to repeat it, but It was in copy zone on the 60, the zone value was something weird with very little ram left. I can't recall exactly, but it was something like coping a zone to temp with no zone defined (e.g.000 to 000 ) then pasting it or something, I repeated it once, then never did it again since it was a mistake anyway.

I had to do the same thing and reboot. just pasting zone for like 2 hours.

Maybe you should try the 3.14 OS Mike and Rohan have out on floppy.

Mine ain't frozen yet....used to happen all the time when I used the old knock off 2000. Matter of fact, it's like the MPC2000 loves to freeze up at the worst times. Anyway, staying on topic here, you ever get that nonsense high-pitch data playback when you truncate BEFORE the sample stops playing?? I noticed it on the 2000 as well, but was a little disappointed when the 3000 did it. Just as to not lose you cats, what I mean is say I got a 2 two bar loop and I chop it down to one. If I hit the pad again and then hit the ...'clear after zone end' button, the thing will playback the whole sample super fast in what sounds like 8-bit sound. Don't make nothin crash, but still is a crazy bug to me. Yall have that happen???

I vaguely remember more details, I think it was after I deleted after soft end, and the zone still had old values on it, shyt, I can't remember. but it was something stupid.

yo tomb, i think the os3.14 is supposed to fix that. its annoying but its not that bad

4: What is the base ROM version within your MPC3000 ? 3.00, 3.03, 3.08, 3.10 or 3.11

5: What is the RAM layout within your MPC3000 ? IE: All SIMMS ? An EXM and SIMMS

i had about 3-4 10 second breaks in mono

i was into my third bank so maybe 40?

Your machine doesn't sound like it was too loaded with stuff...

Were you running with 3.11 from ROM at the time of lock up

Or ...

Were you running with the 3.14 release booted from floppy

What type of SIMMS are present ?

Flip the lid, look at them, count the chip modules on each stick and supply the numbers marked on the top of each.

Take out the EXM board if it is still there.

MPC3000 machines are picky on the memory type that is installed.

IE: I have one batch of 32meg RAM that futzes in my machine when doing big samples and another that works fine and never has a problem.

just the 3 11 rom. i took out the little memory board when i first dropped the simms in. it hasnt frozen again so i wont bother to open up the case to check the ram, but if it does again ill look into new simms. i bought these simms off some dude off the yahoo 3000/60 usergroup around 2 years ago.

Okeedokee then.

3.11/3.12 and any version before have a BAD memory handling issue that can in some circumstances affect machine stability when an MPC3000 is fitted with 32meg of RAM and your samples in memory have gone beyond 16meg.

3.14 addresses this.

Your "freeze" up could have been related to this or some other freak event in the universe.

I don't know why anyone with a 3000 wouldn't be using 3.14, it is really a dream come true, a new OS for a great machine from two of the most knowledgeable people.
