just checking... controlling a module from my mpc-60?

Ok... I'm trying to use my Roland R8m modules from the pads on my mpc-60 and I must be doing something wrong but I've read the manual and maybe I'm missing something obvious?

on os 3.03

1. set the mpc track to drum and turn local midi off.

2. set the track channel to the midi port and the midi channel - A10

3. Make sure my drum module is set to receive on channel 10.

4. make mad beats

5. go back and set the track type to "midi" when it's all don? (haven't got that far yet)

I'm not getting sound out of my R8M module so I'm doing something wrong somewhere. I thought I'd start with something simple coz I can sample into my mpc pretty easy but I'm not happy with my samples yet and the Roland has some good sounds that cut through pretty nice. Then when I get this down I'll trigger the s1000 and s900 too - cymbels on the 1000.

Try to set the R8 channel to channel 1. Set the mpc midi channel to 1 on the track you are using. you have a midi cable connected from the mpc's midi out A to the R8 midi in right? you have the audio outs on the r8 connected so you can hear it right?

using channel 10 might be a problem with the R8 depending on what it is set on internally.

Oh man I keep expecting the 60 to be harder than it is I had everything right just forgot that the Roland is kinda funny and each drum kit has its own channel... once I got that right and got the mixer stuff right my sequence came out loud n clear

I'm thinkin tho that it might be better to go into the midi and assign all the pads sequencially... that way it would be easier to know what midi note is there all the time, save that to master and change it around only when I need to. Changing the notes on the modules is harder than changing the notes on the MPC.The only frustrating problem is each kit in the R8 has like *17* main sounds to the basic kit.... kik at 35 and ride on 51 foo.


I'm so happy to be back working with the studio stuff again the mpc is too amazing. I'm just not very technical and a slow learner with the g'zillion knobs scene but I can sit down at the 60 and make beats instead a sticken my head in the manual for hours like i used to do with my old drum machine.

Yes, assign the midi on the pads sequentially, start with note 35 on pad 1 in bank a and continue on. Save it as master, and if you use the MPC editor, save a pgm with nothing loaded with the pads in sequential order and load it in, that's the only way I know of to get the editor to keep the midi assignments.
