The Learning Curve on an MPC-60

Yeah, he OLD OS is a nightmare compared to the new one. If that's all you had it wouldn't be so bad, it isn't compared to others of the time. but 3.10 is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better. it really grew into the hardware nicely.

El - which external analog filters can one use with the 60? any examples?

lots, Electric Filter Factory, Frstwave Resonator, Sherman Filterbank, Sherman QMF (if you can find one, Way outta my league cash wise) and Tidal music's QUAD. Anything modular or DIY, even filter inputs on old analog synths. I rarely use filters with the 60, mostly just EQ, but filtering samples is great. The best bet for someone is probably to get a small rack of doepfer filters or something and keep it patched in, but don't sweat it, I don't even use the filters much on my emax, the best thing is probably to get a rack sampler for the 60 eventually like the 950 and any sample that you'll want filtering with you can use that.

by using the 950 or emax, you mean you can use their filters as though it were an mfc42, for example? I do have an eps16 which I should probably start using more for the samples I use.. but it's not like the asr where you can use it as a real time filter.

No rack samplers do not work like the MFC42. Well at least my s6000 doesnt. When you go the rack sampler route (highly recommended) the rack will have its own onboard filters which once you load your samples into it, you can filter.

yeah maze got it, anything you need to filter, use the rack, or external units, which may be a pain to some, but external units give you much more flexibility, you can route one sound through many filters in series or paralell, put a distortion unti between them, all sorts of stuff.

I suggest you all check out the tidal unit, it was designed for MPC's / drum computers, and you get 4 filters plus a heap of dope stuff, great for drums, and all real analog.

yeah, but no 12 bit, and a little cramped compared. And it's only a low pass filter and one per sample, and not analog. Kinda nice filters, but yeah, if that's your thing the 3000 is right for you.

Another question: Instead of an MPC-60, would a comparable/better set up be Reason and a Mac...?

I only ask because everyone I've asked and everything I've read makes Reason out to be the utter truth.

What do you think...?

well, either is no replacement to the other, I would rather go with the 60, as you can use reasonfor free. and use the 60 with it.

I avoid macs now a days.
