MPC 3000 vs. MPC 4000

Is that a 3000LE in ur sig?my god that is beatuiful

i think all akai mpc outputs are unbalanced i.e -10dB (may be able to get balanced outs on z series or s5/6000?)? this mod just seems to make them have balanced outputs i.e. +4dB? or am i talking rubbish?

"Unbalanced" and/or "Balanced" has nothing to do with "level".

IE: You can have an unbalanced line and have it running hot at +4dB.

Using the example of an MPC3000/3000LE.

MPC3000/3000LE outputs are unbalanced and run at +6dB into a 600 Ohm load.

MPC3000/3000LE inputs are balanced.

The "mod" that FORAT perform for an MPC60 is about boosting the output signal level and has nothing to do with balancing an unbalanced drive stage.

Maybe Bruce could jump on and tell us ( In fact, why doesn't he get on here and contribute a bit more )

IE: A lot of us know the MPC3000 output levels can peak the input of an SSL 9000K or a 6000E ( no surprises on a Mackie VLZ-PRO or A&H Mix Wizard )

So making them "hotter" than they are will achieve what in particular

Even higher output levels at the expense of a deterioration in signal to noise ratio

BTW: I'd love to hear from some one who has had this done to their MPC3000 and is able to supply some emiprical data about how much better things are after said mod.

Yeah, Brice does it to all models except the 1000, for which he lists no Mods.

Yeah, I don't get why an output boost on a +6 machine would be any benefit. Unless it just helps make it louder than other 3000's? A lot of the mods are for braggin rights, I would love a hotter output on my 60, but $300 I can't part with for that right now.

When I called Him a few weeks ago he said ,he could perform the mod on
Anything, An Akai s950,(SP 1200 He Said works Esp well with these!)
An ASR 10 Whatever!!

ASk him to what Db Output he does the boost on these different machines, is it a particular boost to all or does he take them all to +10? It was called a +4 dB on the 60, but if the 3000 is +6, then he's got to take it higher, etc.

what does amplifying the outputs do?just make it louder?what difference does it make if you record it in your DAW then turn the volume up
