nah man, I never had a problem with your opinion of the sp, I was just talking in general, venting how this place degenerates and the people who could lift it up for thier own and everybody's benefit just degenerate to the lowest common denominator instead.

fact and reasons for opinions. Not for music. I hate mushrooms on pizza because around here they only use crappy canned mushrooms that taste like pickles.

'The SP doesn't suit me anymore because I find it slow for doing what I want' is kinda what I got from you, which is a decent example. What specifically you found slow would be good to know too, especially from someone with so much experience with them. in other words an intelligent discussion, but I guess a forum based on one of the easiest to use pieces of gear is the wrong place to look ;)

I'm not into elitism, or talking down to people, well, unless they really deserve it or start it, but even then its not worth it, its never fun. Tell me about contracts, lets keep some substance here, otherwise there will be little reason for anyone to stck around for the bulshytin'.

If all you have is condescending remarks towards me for forums I start then I suggest you take your rudenss elsewhere? I raise questions and ideas to generate conversation, whether it be controversial or debate worthy...and they may not be the most intellectually stimulating, but at least I think for myself and don't let the game decide who i am or should be. That's not being a "purist", or elitist, that's called having integrity. I'm not looking to talk down on anybody nor am I trying to pick fights, I'm just saying that everytime I start a 12-bit related forum or talk about an sp1200 or talk about Pete Rock, you all start rippin' on me......is that because I feel a certain way regarding modern music......you bet your ass! You guys talk a lotta shit and show nothing to back it up. You think the material on my soundclick page represents a fraction of my skills as a producer think again. Not only do i handle the cuts the scratches, the beats, but I also act as producer/engineer for almost every project i'm involved with. I put mad hours into diggin' for beats and breaks. Get off that purist label....you all talk about me being a purist yet I bet you wear expensive namebrand clothing, shop at commercial markets and drive a vehicle produced by a well-known manufacturer. When's the last time you made a remark cus someone was wearing K-SWISS as opposed to NIKE or driving a MUSTANG opposed to a MAZDA......And by that example (not that great) i'm not saying there is a RIGHT WAY or a WRONG WAY to create music there are just too many facts proven that the modern producer mentality, that musicians want to be in and out of the studio and think that the best way to get something done is the fast way, because everybody knows time is money as you've all said before. That's not true at all. There is more to life than money.....damn I gotta finish this later....gotta be back to work.

When it comes to music and art I like my material authentic. That's why I make sure my orange juice is NOT FROM CONCENTRATE! Straight up...no gimmicks man! That's the code of the streets.....at least it was last time I checked.....oh i forgot that don't exist anymore. Go getchur money and be gone. See you on VH-1's where are they now!

Drumatic is no slouch, homie puts me on to techniques and makes me ask questions about gear I never think to ask and gives the answer straight up. Probably one of the few cats on here that taught me something I didn;t already know about the 60 and the emax. Yall keep flashing your titles, I respect knowledge.

All ya'll do is imatate sh!t thats already been done. When you start creating some NEW styles then start talking. When I listen to most cats that make music like you. I could swear I heard the style before, it may not be the same samples but the vibe is imatated to a "T"! Copy-Kats get NO respect from me, fam!! And the game decides who EVERYONE is going to be. You see artists YOU don't like (commercially), so you try to NOT sound like them... because in your eyes their wack. Why couldn't it just be, your just not into that style of music or I don't care for the content. No cats like you just say "that Lil Jon stuff is not real hiphop!" But people in the south think it is and most of those cats have put in the time (some 20 years) into their music before they even hit the masses... I dont' have the luxury of parents with money and a good paying 9 to 5 to have your vision. Music is my job NOT the graphics (or whatever) job you have. I'm sure your music isn't paying the bills for your house so you couldn't understand me. Plus I have a family son, wife and children to support so you can save your "I'm doing music my way" speech for someone that cares!!!

And who said I like commercial music??? Dog I was probably doing this thing called Hiphop before you, I see this now!!! If a commerical artist calls my manager wanting a beat, of course I'm going to sell it. Why not??? I make music I feel!!! I can use jazz samples and breakbeats and chop them up as you do but I'm not limited to just that either. A producer that was a signature style never lasts long. I'm trying to do it like Quincy Jones NOT DJ Premier (and I respect both) but one is a legend in ALL genres of music.

And Elm, knowledge is in a eye of the beholder, things YOU see as knowledge may not matter as much to someone else, keep that in mind. No one has all the answers and if they do they probably were killed...

trying to steer this thread back over 4 lanes of SP talk & the social politics of the forum....

i think the Machinedrum User Wave is a great addition to the Elektron line. I used to have a Machinedrum but opted to trade it out for a Monomachine because it just worked better for what I wanted to do. Now that the User Wave is out, i wish i still had the MD around. The idea that you sample on the fly and have total control over sample manipulation is pretty hot. i highly doubt the sound could ever compare to the thickness of an SP or an MPC, but i don't think that really matters because it's not at all competing with them in functionality. the RAM allows for a lot of real-time sampling and the ability to manipulate those samples extensively on the fly, and the ROM allows you to add all the sounds you wanted on the MD but just were'nt there (i'd love to have an MD with a 606 kit or the linndrum hihats). anyone who has used a Machinedrum knows how rediculously controlable it is. add to it now a sampler and i think you've got one of the most powerful drum synths you could imagine

why you don't sample with 950 e later sample from 950 with your 1000?

it's easy and you save everything on flash card.

By elmacaco Tue Jun 21, 2005 7:38 pm
yeah, doc, but why you gotta keep defending what you do? no one is dissing you personally, but you come out and make it personal. I heard your posted beats on that page and they were solid but certainly derivitive, new genres? Not what I heard, maybe you posted something new.

I don't make hip hop, I just make music, not beats, not hip hop, comercial or otherwise, but yet again, we've been through this argument before, made up, been cool, and now this again. can you maybe take this pasttime somewhere else? For a cat that eats off this you waste a lot of time here, and trust me, I know about wasting time here!!! If you can't learn anything here, then either teach or leave.

I'm not the one saying hiphop is wack!!! I like it, not all of it but somethings I'm trying to give a chance to. I'm not talking about "the golden era" and trying to be "so different", I'm just doing things I like, not because of a period in music but because I like certain things in my music. This is more of a hiphop site then anything, so I posted hiphop tracks... And Elm NONE of this is directed to YOU. The Drumat!c dude was talking. He can speak for himself, I think? But yeah YOU are on here ALOT, do you work??? Damn man you need your own website money. And this is a forum!!!!

FORUM: 1) A public meeting or assembly for OPEN discussion (meaning ANY, even your 12-Bit sh!t) 2) A forum is an online discussion group. Forums can be newsgroups, or they can be Web-based. 3) Meeting or part of meeting set aside for an open discussion by recognized participants on subjects of public interests.

It's for everyone, even newbies!!! If you don't like that. Send some money, reg a domain, get some web space, get a following and open up your own site. Where you can have a private membership!!!

Nah, but youre famous around here...

OK Doc, lemme know who you're talkin to, address someone who youre talkin otherwise its easy to think you're groupin us together.

This is a gear sight, it;s the hip hop cats that ruin it. I really don;t see how using an MPC 60 or 3000 locks you into making beats from 10 or 16 years ago? or if you are making beats that sound like that era the equipment you use is somehoiw to blame?

this place really sucks now, people are more interested in winning arguments than learning anything. I'm kinda tired of trying to actually build this place against the currents of stupidity. And what bugs me is I suspect a lot of people here aren't stupid, but come here to get stupid. So I think Im gonna be out for a while. Honestly I dont need my own forum, I think I'll just prevent carpel tunel syndrome and just speak my mind instead of typing it.
