is the mpc60II right for me?

sup everybody. i am new to the forums and need help. i was looking to get the mpc60II/950 combo. here are my questions:

1. is there any other difference between the mpc60 and the mpc60II besides the head phone jack and the caseing it comes with?

2. this would be my first mpc (and actually my first drum machine).. would it be difficult for me to master this machine?

3. i am looking for the "lo-fi" sound, is the mpc60II right for me?

4. i want to use the mpc60II as a dedicated sequencer and use the akai s950 as the dedicated sampler (cuz of the filters it offers), would this be practical?

5. and lastly how much would i be looking to pay for this combo? and is anybody selling either of these equipments?

to answer number 2 tho: i have really limited experience making beats/working with gear, etc, but the 60 has been butta for me. really dude i'm a total noob and its been easy for me.

Get a 60, a S950, a 12 or 16 channel mixer and a tape machine.

You will like it and be happy.

^^^I cosign both of the above. The MK1 and 60II r identical except 4 the case, the headphone jacc and that they shipped with scsi and memory upgrade. I prefer the MK1 look myself. The 60 was my 1st sampling drum machine. It's as easy as u want it 2 be, intuitive as it should be and as complex as u need it 2 be. I'm still learning new things. Get 1 with as many upgrades as possible and be prepared 2 deal with the joys of old technology. Nuthin sounds better. Great 1st MPC. -uno-

so basically.. all i would need is the following:

1. an mpc60II (need heaphone jack... dont got money for monitors or loud speakers.......yet)
2. an s950 with memory maxed (i plan to use the s950 as a dedicated sampler and the mpc as the dedicated sequencer)
3. a turntable (to sample from vinyl)
4. a phono preamp for turntable
5. a 16 channel mixer (what would u guys suggest?... maybe a mackie 1604vlz pro..?)
6. a recording medium (is a cassette deck practical? since most ppl burn all they beats to a cd..?... what would u guys suggest?)

so.. basically this is all i need for my setup?... thanks alot guys for all the help!.. gonna get started getting equipment as soon as i get your opinions. thanks!

What up DaLanTeRn, I just want to clairify somthing for you so you can widen your search options on the MPC60 you want to buy. You won't need a headphone jack if you plan on using an s950 as your dedicated sampler. All of the sounds will come out the s950 and NOT the MPC60. So feel free to search for an MKI also. I don't know if there is a headphone jack on the mixer you are looking to buy but that would be somthing to consider if you want to use headphones.

I use a cassette for recording but I use a 4-track and not a Cassette Deck. It's good for now but I will outgrow it soon. I record a beat to tape first and then record 2 (Original and tape versions) copies to soundforge incase something happens to the tape and so I can burn to CD.

sweet twice. i didnt know you were able to record from tape into soundforge.
well then just out of curiousity what would u guys suggest i use as my recording medium?....(should i just get a tape machine?).. can anybody help me out?... (like throw in some models or w/e so i can have an idea on what to look at)

and can i hook up a vhs player and cd player so i can sample from cd's and from vhs (i would like to sample some stuff from movies)?.. how would i hook up that to my setup?

so basically what i am trying to ldo.. it wouldnt matter if i had the mpc60I or the mpc60II?

mpc60II's are generally cheaper on Ebay, mostly because dudes like the way the mk1 looks i guess it's more sought after?, I bought the mk1 becuase of the OG look and more sturdy metal case, you can fab up your own headphone jack with a lil wire splicing and some supplies from radio shack, but then again I'm just gonna hook it up to my 24/96 soundcard in my laptop and use it as a medium to use the headphone jack on my laptop. Ect....

ps that handrest looks dope too man, I wanna send mine to forat for a nice black/red color combo but I don't think I could part with it.
