 yo everyone, checked out the FAQ's but no answer...so....i'm using the 3k with 3.11 OS. having the external iomega 100mb zip drive hooked up to it i was hoping that i would be able to load and save up to 64 samples to use for a song session since you could only have access to one program at a time. is this possible? i'm only able to assign samples(mono one second long) to banks A,B, and the bottom eight pads of bank C. does it have to do with the "partitioning" of the disk? i chose the 4 partitions option. my friend says it's possible but doesn't remember how it was done. :)

wait, you can;t load 64 samples into your 3000?

You are clearly new to this, take it slow and mae sure you arent misunderstanding something, and explain what you can;t do more clearly. You should be able to assign samples to any pads. Try going to other and initialising paramaters (init params or something like that) and see if it works then.

yo Elm,

you're right about new, but it's using the SCSI zip drive that's new. i'm from the school of the 4k, so i'm use to having 64 samples no problem. i have deep respect for the 3k and most importantly its community. that's why i can humble myself and vulnerably ask for help. especially you. most of my commercial success has come from using the 4k but i've noticed that other mp's tend to follow the beat of another drummer, hence, my interest in other mp's.
what i'm trying to get is a lot of sounds at once if possible on the 3k because i like its sound but don't expect the machine to be a 4k. it seems the 3k is only letting me fill up banks A, B, and half of C. if i add any more new samples, then i have to replace and already assigned sample. this is only my inexperienced observation and not an official 3k statement. you mentioned checking out the "other" button and selecting "initialize partition". something like that which sounds very helpful. thanks. i'll let you know how that turns out.
i've mostly been using the 3k as a processer more than a sequencer but i always change up along the way. still though,....thanks for the input and deep respect for all the "helpful" at heart. keepin it music right?

Yeah man, I wasn't trying to be insulting or anything, sorry if it sounded at all like that.

Two separate things need to be identified. Loading sounds into memory, and then assigning the loaded sounds to the pads.

If you are loading sounds into the memory and it stops you from laoding after a certain number of sounds, that is probably because the sounds have taken up all the memory you have.

If your 3000 is maxed memory wise you should have 32 Mb's of Ram in there. a stock 3000 has 2mb's of memory, and if you are using stereo samples it will take up twice as much room. You can see how much memory you have if you turn it on and keep it empty, and go either to the Sample screen and see how long you can sample or go to the load screen and select a .SND file, below it it will tell you free sound memory.

So that could be your problem. But, if you can load 64 sounds into the memory, then you assign the sounds to pads, there should be no trouble here, if they are in memory you should be able to assign them no problem.

None of this has anything to do with the SCSI, unless you are having trouble saving and then loading, but it sounds like you can't get at the D and half the C bank.

With an empty program, try assigning samples to the Half of the C and D banks that you can;t get too, and see if those pads are working, as that could be a problem. Suffice to say that this is not normal, and given enough details we can figure out what is going on.

So if you can get back to me with more details of what's going on, I'll be better albe to see what's going on and solve it for you.

it's all about the music. Cheers Morpheus.

Can u load sounds in banks C and D when there r no other sounds loaded? It sounds like a memory issue 2 me. If u can load sounds 2 banks C and D but have 2 start deleting at a certain point then u probably have more sounds than your memory allows. The 3000 comes with 2MB standard and 32MB max. Checc in2 that as that might be your problem. If so, then just upgrade the memory and problem solved. -uno-

yo wassup peeplz,

:D s'all good homie (elm). much love to all the teachers out there.
just got back home from being out all day and appreciate all the responses. goin to the lab to try and troubleshoot right after droppin this. okay, hope this will make enough sense.
what was originally done when encountering the problem:
1. armed the 3k (with 32mb memory) to sample the 4k's and 60's sounds. the setting was mono and 1sec. long.
2. never had to load any sounds because they were being sampled in. went on assigning down the order (bank A, pad 1,2,3,etc.) all the way until it would no longer let me assign to any additional pad after bank C, pad 8.
3. went ahead and edited the new samples then saved onto the zip drive. was able to load the same sounds/program but when again trying to add new samples by sampling with the same settings, it would not let me get past the same place. using OS 3.11 by the way.

hope this is really helpful. gonna go to the lab and try it out some more.

glad to see that the music is still our greatest commonality between our bretheren. even over our differences and bias'. here's to more inspiration and less segregation, let's do away with legislation. peace. :D :D :D

OK, load one sound from your zip and see if you can assign it to the C bank 9-16 or a pad in the D, any that didn;t work before and get back at us.

okay, the problem has been resolved. now i can get 64 samples. it was elm's first suggestion, "initialize partitions" in the "other" button section. kudos to all. thanks again everyone.

Initialize parameters. yup. Whenever something really screwy is happening this should be your first stop. What probably happened is someone screwed up the midi note number assignments or something. It will remain somewhat of mystery becayse initialize parameters fixes so much, maybe Rohan has an idea what was behind it, but now it's behind you so :)

If it wasn;t that i might have thought a loose ribbo connector inside, keep that around in case something else starts acting weird.

Glad I could help, happy 3kin'.
