Yo,

I'm hoping one of you MPC 60 wizes can enlighten me on how to sync midi based synths to my 60. An example would be what Mark De Clive Lowe was doing during his lecture at the Red Bell Music Academy. I want to have my drum loop playing on the 60, and add synth programs over the top, that will sync up in real time looping with the sequence. On top of that, is it possible to layer multiple programs off one synth? So say, I lock a bassline in, then I lay some pads, then some synth strings, etc? Any help is much appreciated. Please be specific as possible regarding the screen command setups.

Peace,
LPF

I think you just go midi out to in and in to out on each machine...setup up a new track and change that to midi, record and play the synth....I've never been able to play more that one sound from an external keyboard through the mpc unless it's a split key, keyboard where I'll put my bases on the left and other sounds on the right...that's more to do with the keyboard specifics than the mpc I believe

You don't need the midi in from every machine only one is necessary to control the all midi outputs. As far as multiple programs from the same keyboard it is completly keyboard specific and it comes down to midi channels and polyphony. For example I use a Korg N5ex and it's got 64 voice poly and 16 midi channels.

Here is my setup -

Korg N5ex - Local Control OFF

MPC60 MIDI IN 1 to N5ex MIDI OUT
MPC60 MIDI OUT 1 to N5ex MIDI IN
MPC60 MIDI OUT 2 to S950 MIDI IN
MPC60 MIDI OUT 3 to S900 MIDI IN

MPC MIDI Menu option 2 MIDI ROUTING Active Channel Recieve ALL
Local ON Soft Thru ON

When I make a track with the Korg I choose a channel on the MPC like 1A, 2A, 3A etc, I select Type MIDI and then I go to that channel on the Korg and select the program I want to use. Same for the S9s just without all the MIDI channels.

Probably what's holding you back is the settings on your keyboard.

Peace
