Is my jaz drive toast?

I have been using an iomega jaz drive for about a two years now on my mpc3000 (3.08 floppy booted to 3.11). recently one of the partitions on the drive failed to be recognized by the mpc. Later another, and finally the main (A) partition is not being recognized. When trying to access the drive, the motor whirs and the read light on the jaz drive lights up but I still get a message about hard drive data being corrupted or damaged.
Yesterday I tried to format the drive (cried while the thought of losing hundreds of samples and seq. entered my mind ) but after about 15 min. I got a message stating that the drive was not connected. The whole time the read light was illuminated and the motor mechanism inside the jaz drive was acting like it was being accessed.

Any thoughts?

Try a different SCSI JAZ drive if you can get your hands on one.

Best course of action in the first instance.
