Using 3000 zip disk with a 60II?

Hi,

I've got a 60II with 3.1 and Marion SCSI...I have a 250 MB Zip Drive attached.

My question: Can I load a 3000 drum Zip Disk into the 60...? I realise that the bits of the PGM that deal with filters etc won't work...but is the format compatible (I suspect that the drum sounds will be pretty dry anyway)?

Also... the Zip Disk I'm thinking of buying (MIDIMARK.COM) is 100MB. Will this work in a 250MB drive?

Yes within certain limitations.

MPC3000 PGM's will be loaded and the filter parameters ignored.

SND's will load within MPC60 memory limits.

So this may discount use of those big MPC3000 PGM & SND combinations that are larger than the MPC60s' memory capabilities.

100 mb ZIP disks will load in a 250 meg ZIP drive.

Can't imagine why the MIDIMARK disk would be any different.

I can load small enough 3k pgm into the 60 without any problems. It takes a while for the 60 to convert files, and I had to reset the values for soft start/end.

Correct. A fair bit of maths for an 80186 to crunch.

MPC60 = 12 bit non-linear.

MPC3000 = 16 bit linear.

Converting from one into the other can result in a slightly differing amplitude curve with the sample.

Any start and end points that were "best start" level threshold set on one machine may need to be shifted in certain circumstances when loaded into the other.

I remember bringing this up in exactly the same thread months/years back.

I just wanted to stress that if you load a 26.2 second MPC60 sample into your 3K and then SAVE it i.e. overwrite it and note make a copy the 3K will typically add another half a meg to the sound size. So yes you could reload this back into your 60 BUT it will be now 2meg+ large and as you know the 60's memory is 1.5 so it will be unloadable. There are a few work arounds but just bear this in mind....

on a side note Rohan, if I loaded a 60 sample, say 250KB for arguments sake, into the 3K then overwrote it in the 3K with a save (after making no changes to the sample), the file size would've increased. If I now took the sample and reloaded in the 60 (assuming file size stayed under 1.5meg) would this shrink the file size back down to what it was at the start? I deem it unlikely but wouldn't mind knowing
