Cassette to 60 (buzzing problem)

Might be a little long. Might belong in "Production Techniques". Bear with me.

So I don't get much time for beats these days but I've kinda been **** with recording samples to tape (w/ Tascam 244) and then sampling from the tape into the 60.

Generally, the sound is really really nice. But a lot of times you get this buzzing sound from the tape.

What I do is, when I record from the record to the tape, I'm playing it at 45 speed. Then when I'm recording the sample from the tape into the 60, I play the tape even faster and slow it down in the 60. You know, so I can get the most out of my sample time.

Any tips on how to get rid of the buzzing or at least reduce it more? Is it because I'm speeding the sample up too much? Is it all EQ? Is it just something I'm doing wrong? Can't do nothin about it?

I thought I was the only 1 that smapled from tape LOL. I found that i got more noise with higher volumes. If lowering the volume doesn't help, try sampling in2 a program and then routing the sample bacc through the 60. Either of those methods should produce the results u need. uno

Well I'm trying to distort it a bit so I turn it up a little louder.

What type of programs you mean? I'm super ignorant when it comes to computer and programs for music/sound. I have nothing.

It might be a grounding issue. Try plugging the 244 and the 60 in the same outlet.

There's a lot of software that u can use 2 hold samples that u trigger from or dump bacc in2 the 60. I use soundforge, personally, 2 edit samples. I'm not real technical either so i feel dumb giving advice on software.

I underdig that u want 2 distort the sample but it's better 2 go in clean and then manipulate later as necessary. Sampling at a reduced volume does limit the amount of noise that gets picked up and allows the 60 2 work its magic with the samples. Tape has more noise than other sources but it also piccs up cetain nuances that go unheard. If u sample at a higher volume the 60 will pull in undesirable frequencies. I generally use tape when i want 2 muddy or degenerate the sound and therby creating something new. Hope that made some sense. uno
