Is my son ass backwards or is it just me? He was asking me if he can slave the asr10 to the mpc60. His reason was so he can sample more into the asr10 while still doing the drums on the 60. opinions? good lookin out

what does sampling more have to do with slaving anything to anything? I don't get that. The MPC has a better sequencer and more midi ins and outs, I'd say slave the ASR to the MP but either would work

well considering the asr10 has more sample time then an mpc60 im assuming he wants to be able to use that among the effects on the asr10 on the samples. whats goooooooood people? any thoughts

hook the asr's midi out to the mpc 60's midi in. you can record the asr 10's midi data on the mpc 60's sequencer and save it to a flopy disk, or pcm card. then hook the mpc 60's midi out to the asr 10's midi in.

This midi configuration allows u to trigger other gear with the asr 10 , thru the mpc 60.

sample with either the asr 10 or the mpc 60. if u sample with the asr 10 u can now trigger the asr 10 with both the asr, and the 60.

also u can trigger the mpc 60 normally via the 16 pads, but also with the asr 10.

Just make sure when you are playing the asr 10 that you are not sending that midi information into the mpc 60 and then back out to the asr 10 causing a midi feedback loop.

good lookin out im gonna give that a shot. can the mpc60 be master though so when i press record play on it the asr10 triggers aswell? I assume so but im not farmil with 60's midi configs

or s950 would work way better you think?

S950 is basically an MPC60 with filters and no sequencer. The asr10 has its own sound and features to it like any other drum machine. Its really a matter of preference, do you want 2 of the same sound modules linked to each other to get some extra features and free up some sample time(ie. drums on s950, others on 60 all sequenced by the 60) or two different ones to mix the 2 sounds as well as free up a lil time like with the asr and 60 or like I wanted to do, an emax rack and a 60 to get some sp12 drummin with 60 sequencing and holding more sounds. The point is the choice is yours, see which combinations are going to be best suited for what your son wants to make. Good luck.

What if his son just wanted to sample with the ASR, and sequence the ASR samples on the MPC thru MIDI.

how would that set-up go...it'd be a little simpler would'nt it.

I've had the MPC-XL for a while and i just wanted a better sampler with better filters and more options so i got a ASR rack. My beats are made solely from samples on records(drums too) so i thought it would be a good investment in my music.

Now i'd just like to know how to trigger the samples from the ASR with my MPC pads thru MIDI

How do i plug the MIDI cables to do this ... please

To record asr keyboard sessions in the mpc sequencer:
ASR10 midi out > MPC midi in

To slave asr to mpc sequencer:
MPC midi out > asr midi in

Then both machines have to be configured. Check midi section in both manuals.

hey thanks a lot ...that was a good explanation.

One more question that has been bugging me bad along with the other.

If i slave the ASR to the MPC(i have the Rack unit)... do i have to send the stereo main outs of the ASR anywhere or will the samples from the ASR play from the MPC by just having them midi'd together and my MPC main outs hooked to a amp?

Where do the ASR's main stereo outs go when slaving it to a master MPC?

I don't get this even though by now i probably should

midi is midi and audio is audio.

the asr sequenced on the 60 will still have its audio played out through the asr audio outs.

this is a pretty good set up. I have an eps sequenced on the 60 and it's worked out really well for me in terms of work flow.

remember to toggle through the midi mode to find the setting that doesn't give the midi feedback loop mentioned above.

So, with that in mind
do i need 8 mono cables running from my ASR-10(rack) to a audio/midi computer interface for everyone of the 8 tracks that are activated on the ASR-10 front panel that i want to play ?

I thought for some reason by using MIDI you could avoid all those analog wires. I bought the ASR rack to sample with it thinking i could magically hear the sounds by having it MIDI'd up with my MPC and hitting the pads(without having to run any audio cables from my ASR-1o to hear it).
i know MIDI does'nt have any sound in it ... 8) its just numbers that tell whatever its MIDI'd up to, what to do.

say...

If i bought a MOTU-828 firewire interface with 8 INS and i have a MPC-60 ...do yall think i should route 4 of the mono channels from the MPC-60(for 12 bit DRUMS) to the interface, and also send 4 of the ASR's mono channels (the 6 extra outs) to the interface ....?? to fill up the 8 ins on the interface?

then i'd be running MIDI and audio signal into the interface ... and actually hear my MIDI :?: ??

any advice or help ... ?All the diffrent paramaters and going back and forth from peice to piece... it's been really frustrating ... the manual is like a 3rd lanuage to me when i get to the MIDI section
I want to sample with the ASR and it gets hot...

Ill run my turntable to my MPC-60 to get the drums and to the ASR for the melody chops. Then i should get good sound with a 12 bit 16 bit mix...once i get a 8 in or more interface( ).

ok ...a light bPulb went on in my head  and i took the audio wires out of my MPC main outs and stuck them in the ASR main outs(to the amp)... then I played what i had loaded up on the ASR on the MPC pads:) i was suprised, the ASR gave me like the 16 levels on the MPC pads with whatever sound was loaded in the ASR.

nice :P

I could'nt hear a metronome from the MPC when recording the MIDI data, which kind of threw me off...but i guess i can get used to that... or run the metronome from a individual out into another amp or something.

I was only able to activate one instrument at a time thru MIDI on the ASR...Only one orange/track light lights up at a time. Can i say put snare on track 1, then kick on track 2 and hi-hat on trak 3 ect. and have all the little orange lights lit up all at once on the ASR so all the tracks are recieving thru MIDI and i could play a whole drum kit from the ASR all at once?

thnx for being here fellerz
