Filtering tip on MPC60

Probably old news but:

Recently got an MPC60. Coming from the mpc2000, I noticed no filters, no looping.

To get around having no filters, I sampled 8 short bass notes at the same key from my analogue synth, with each successive one opening the filter a little bit more and put them side by side on a bank.

I did the same with the a lead sound but only 4 samples to conserve memory. (by the way, all samples were taken higher up the keyboard and pitched down -60 in the mpc to conserve memory)

When sequencing I now have filtered sounds that I can change the pitch with in the usual 16 levels function. In step edit I can go through each note and change the pad to an adjacent pad with different filtering if I want to fine tune things (i made a program with straight midi - to pad assignment, starting from 35 up to 98, therefore adjacent pads around in step edit is easy). Put all together it sounds a lot less static and more pulsating...

of course all that works the same in any mpc. and can also work with guitars, basses etc.

Has anybody got any ideas getting around having no looping in the 60 when you want to use synth sounds with tiny sample cycles?

use midi to trigger your synths if they have it and then loop your patches through assigned tracks within your sequences.

Or, get a rack sampler that can perform loops and have them triggered by the 60.

No Loops? You can loop.

he means looping like one can do on the 2000(xl).

yes, i meant looping like in the xl, where you can take tiny samples and make them into synth sounds with added release set in the program.

Yes, it's cool to do things with midi and external sampler. I just would love if you were able to do it in the 60, because you could save tons of memory and do it all inside one machine...

above all, the mixing capabilities inside the 60 are just awesome, especially with stereo mix etc set to 'sequence' and an external fx unit (lexikon mpx100 in my case, allows midi bank changes, too) in the echo send/return.

It just opens up the whole machine when you can apply reverb and so to just one note here and there without having to use a mixer etc. When I use my 950, the whole thing, like panning etc becomes so much more involved that i rather stay in one machine for convenience and callback (don't wanna use pc's and macs no more, thanks)

i'll keep working on it, there must be a way...

you know the S950 can do loops. My preference is to stay in one box also but sometimes that impossible with this older gear and its limitations. I hate having to save different songs on 3 to 5 floppies when I use different boxes but thats what rubberbands are for. You could use MPC Editor and then save all you mpc60 data as a img. on your computer and reuse that floppy for something else.

Others correct me if I'm wrong..

why don't you get a Moog MF101 for filtering, then you could use the return on the 60 and freak the knobs live?
