Is my mpc3000 BROKE!!!!!!!????

Im a long time user of the sp1200, asr10, s950, mpc2000xl. I got a mint mpc3000 os3.08. When i go to truncate, i set the soft start n end points of my sample and hit -DO- Nothing happens!! So I set the zone ST n end points to the same numbers as my soft st and end points, and i hit delete before soft and delete after soft end -DO- And my sample dissappears completely!! Same with delete before zone n after zone-DO- I Just want to truncate my samples!!!!!!!! Someone please give me step by step on how to do it!!!

Sounds like your deleting outside your start & end points

Yeah, truncating samples on the 3000 is a bit backwards on some of the earlier OS versions. It's all about deleting the zone.

I'm not with my MPC right now but I'm pretty sure this is the deal:

Let's assume you've got a 4 sec sample. Let's also assume that you've set your soft start point to 1 sec and your soft end point to 3 sec.

So, what you want to do now is delete the bit before (0 sec - 1 sec) and the bit after (3 sec - 4 sec) so you're left with the bit you wanna keep (1 sec - 3 sec).

To do this, fistly set the zone start to 0 sec - zone end to 1 sec and then set the 'DO' field to 'DELETE ZONE'. Press 'DO' and this will remove the bit from the start.

Now, set the zone start to 3 sec - zone end to 4 sec and then set the 'DO' field to 'DELETE ZONE'. Press 'DO' and this will remove the bit from the end.

Alternitavely download the OS v3.11 to a floppy and use that version. It adds 'DEL BEFR SOFT ST' and 'DEL AFTR SFT END' to the 'DO' field which will allow you to remove the sections of the sample before the soft start and after the soft end without **** about with zones.

So....with os 3.11. whats the purpose of zones?

since anything i do with zones ( ie. reverse ) i cant record to the sequence since all i can do is save to TEMP which disapears once i leave the screen, and since in the zone screen there is no way that i see how to assign to a pad.

Well, if you want to silence or reverse a section you have to use the zone. You can also copy the zone to temp and then insert temp at zone start or end.

Let's say you've got a 2 second sample that you want to reverse.

Set the zone start to 0 sec - zone end to 2 sec.

Reverse zone.

Copy zone to temp.

Insert temp to zone start.

Now, your sample should be 4 seconds long. 0 sec - 2 sec will be the reversed sample. 3 sec - 4 sec will be the original.

If you want to keep just the reversed sample, set the soft end to 3 sec and delete after soft end.

Hope that makes sense/works. (I'm not with my MPC right now)
