MPC 60 to MPC 3000 compatibility? OS upgrade?

Hello!

I´ve bought a MPC 3000 with OS 3.05 on ebay.
Also I´ve got a MPC 60 with newest OS 3.10e.

If I want load in programs of the MPC 60 into the MPC 3000, a dialog like this on display:

"the datas are made on a newer OS...."

How can I upgrade my MPC 3000 OS?
Need I also 3.10 an the 3000 to be compatible to my MPC60 3.10e OS ?
Need I Eproms like the MPC 60 has, or can I save a system on my external Zip and load it from there at the startup.

im not too fluent in 3000 os versions, but you may want to check out MPC EDITOR...

Another example of an earlier MPC3000 OS.

So now in the history books that is public releases of.

3.00, 3.03, 3.05, 3.08, 3.10, 3.11, 3.12 ... and then the newer versions again, 3.14B, 3.14, 3.16 and 3.50.

3.05 of the MPC3000 OS more than likely does not have support for the MPC60 3.10E data format.

3.11 has the full support for the MPC60 3.10E data format.
3.12 has additional support for multiple volume spanned floppy disks saved via the MPC60 3.10E operating system.

Newer versions from Mansell-Labs of course support the MPC60 3.10E data format, spanned floppy disks etc.

You will need to upgrade the ROM chips inside the MPC3000.

Unfortunate that your MPC3000 is fitted with a pre 3.08/3.10/3.11 OS.

This fact will more than likely contribute fo problems when attempting to boot an OS from floppy disk.

MPC3000 machines fitted with older versions of operating systems ( previous to 3.11 ) are known to have trouble booting via floppy to newer operating system versions.

3.00, 3.03, 3.08, and in some cases, 3.10 are known to have troubles when booting to floppy versions of 3.11, 3.12, 3.14B, 3.14 and 3.16.

It is possible that OS 3.05 may experience problems when attempting to boot a newer OS via floppy disk.

This is a problem related to the buggy boot loading and system init code present in older MPC3000 OS versions.

Note. The MPC3000 does not/can not boot from SCSI devices.

If you have the money for it: buy the newest O.S. - Vailixi 3.50 - from http://www.mansell-labs.com/
This O.S. is GREAT and 3000 users are very pleased with it (check the sticky tread and the testimonials on the mansell-labs page).
This O.S. will add several usefull functions in the sequencer and for editing the sounds, and give you more storage options. It also gives the possibility of formatting you storage medium so that you can open it in a PC/Mac.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

If you have little money or if you don't want the 3.50 O.S. you can buy the Akai O.S. - 3.11 or 3.12 - from me or any other 3000 user that has already upgraded to the 3.50 O.S. and has the old O.S. on ROM's we no longer use.

I have the 3.11 laying in my room and I have no intentions of using it anymore now that I have the 3.50 O.S.

I have my 3.11 chips for sale in the hardware for sale page...

Don't buy them lol... Buy Vailixi 3.50 !!

yeah if youre gonna go thru the trouble of upgrading your os go all the way and get 3.50. i upgraded a while ago and would never look back.
