i know i have enough gear, i just wanna see how people have used things. certainly you cant use it to make filter-disco (at least not on its own, only with an additional sampler with resonant filters). im pretty sure theo parrish rocks an sp1200 + mpc60 for almost all his stuff. i know how i intend to use it, but im interested to see how others have applied it to dance stuff, maybe there are good applications that i havent though of.
as for 909 samples, i grabbed some from mine back before i sold it, but i dont really use them. i usually rock sampled drums, cut up from disco or soul records, hiphop stylee. ive been layering the sampled kicks with this 808-esque bass hit that i made with my mono/poly to give it massive nasty low frequencies. ive been doing this all on my s3000xl. im hooking up the mpc firstly to get away from sequencing on a computer and secondly to add some true 12 bit sampling to my arsenal, downsampling on the s3kxl doesnt do it for me.
BTW, i think i recognize you from the AH list, right?
I'm bascially on the same boat as you ownlife. I'm glad that I never invested any money in computer software (yet). I could never get comfortable with the mouse/click for making beats. Eventually down the line I'll look into Logic or Ableton, but for know things are good.
Theo's definitely rockin some 12bit grit. I saw a pic of him once in his studio and I could have sworn that he had either the Linn LM1 or the LinnDrum. I've searched for hours on google trying to find that interview again but no dice. Regardless, him and Moodymann are my favorites from the D.
