S950?MPC60 users, How do yall record your beats in PTLE?

So I've been trying to figure out how to record my beats on Protools LE. I've got an Mbox2 and PTLE 7. I'm hoping some one can help me out with this.
Are any of these options actually options?

A. Syncing the S950 or MPC60 OS 3.10 with PTLE via midi? (I dont think this is possible but hey maybe some one knows something I dont. If this is possible how on earth is this done?)

B. Buying a mixing board and recording every thing onto one track on a PTLE session?
( I didn't want to do this because I wanted to mix in Protools and add fx from plus ins)

C. Upgrade to something like Digi002 or Maudio project mix with 8 analog in's?
( this option seems to maket he most sense, althought I'd like to stick with what I've got if possible).

It's quite simple man.

If you only have 2 inputs on your interface you still use individual outs on your 60 and 950. You can only record two outputs at a time, period. You need to use midi (either midi beat clock or MTC) so that the mpc is always in sync with pro tools. Every pass you make that records new audio will be in sync with the previous.

I have a maudio 1814 which has 8 analog ins that I can use in pro tools. I also have an apogee duet that I use with Logic. When using the duet I can only use 2 individual outputs from my samplers at a time as I explained above.

I will research midi beat clock on Monday. I don't understand this process.

1. Am I connecting the Midi output on the S950 or MPC60?

Does that mean that the I will actually play sequences live on protools in order to seperate the tracks?

You have to get a basic understanding of midi before going any further in my opinion.

So I think I have a basic grasp of MIDI application in PT. I've researched MTC and think I have a general understanding.

Unfortuntately my PC crashed (harddrive burned out) over the week. I'm installing a new harddrive and re-installing every thing this week.

I've been searching the manual (S950 and MPC60) for any thing that resembles the instructions on how to sync with PT from the newer MPC's, and havn't found any thing.

I understand that I'm basically using PT the same way I'm using my MPC60 to control my S950.

Can you describe the process of tracking beats with PTLE from my MPC60? Here's what I'm picturing:


MPC 60 MIDI out > S950 MIDI in > 2 channels from the S950 out (mono) > 2 channels in Mbox
Mbox MIDI out > MPC 60 MIDI in

After the first two tracks are recorded, do I then have to pull and plug two new tracks until all 8 are recorded?

If so, it seems like I really should buy an interface with at least 8 channels AND a mixing board with 16 channels incase I ever end up with beats that require more then 8 tracks.
It also makes me wonder if it's time to upgrade my MPC since I've only used it as a control center and never to sample, it really doesn't add any thing to my sound except the signature swing/timing.

I noticed even Sa'id from Beat Tips even upgraded to a 4000.

I just found this post. I think I understand how to control my MPC from PT. I'm concluding that I really need an interface with 8 in/outs. Pulling and plugging every 2 tracks sounds like a head ach. Digi 002's only run a couple hundred more than used Mbox's.

I'm buying a Profire 2626 in January. I understand how to control my MPC60 via Protools.

You need to acquire Pro Tools M Powered with the 2626. PTLE is only compatible with digidesign interfaces (002/003/mbox/etc).

Glad you figured this out...I was wondering the same thing except with the MPC3000. I saw the protools link and it did not have the MPC60 or 3000.

Could you explain how you accomplish the recording with the MPC60?

Same concept, you just need to find midi beat clock and midi time code menus in your 3k/60.
