for sound's sake, s950 not quite equal to mpc60?

what say you about using the s3000 sequenced by the 60?

according to akai's archives, the mpc3000 uses the s3000 sampling/synthesis engine.

would the s3000/60 combo effectively be the mpc3000???

Christ man, why are all you cats wanting equivalents to one machine?

take whatever MPC, and marry it to a rack sampler that has the features you want at a price you can afford!! the MPC3000 sampler isn't so damn hot that you'd want an equivalent. you need to judge machines on their own merrits and take it from there.

the S3000 sounds good and is somewhat of a different machine than the MPC3000.

Plus, the S3000 OS had nothing to do with Roger Linn, so the elegance is gonna be somewhat lost.

Just another post that shows you no matter what people say......the MPC3000 is a ghost that escapes few...LOL

I saw the s950/60 comparison.. and was reading up on the akai archives..

if you could get the same functionality and sound from an s3000 connected to an mpd60 as an mpc3000.. why not? the combo would be $500 tops.. vs.. what the mpc3000 goes for these days???

sorry, what I meant to say was s3000 and the asq10.. never mind the dollar quote, I know I messed up there, was thinking of mpd16 til I realized it didn't have a sequencer.

according to prepal the asq10 & s3000 are going for about $400 each, although I couldn't find the asq on ebay...

Sorry Anon, I was getting a little irked at all the is it the same posts.

Apparently the S3000 isn't that easy to use, but I imagine it has more featurs than the MPC3000 sampler has. You'd need the 3.10 OS and SCSI even on an ASQ-10 to rival the 300, so tak on another $450. If you have a 60, I'd recommend a better rack sampler than the S3000, say an S5000 which are going for about the same and are way easier to use. If you have a 60 and any rack sampler it becomes a powerful combo, better than a 3000 IMO because you can have full envelopes and more filters and such. The 3000 is a killer package, but the 60 rack combo has a lot of potential with about the same cash outlay. But again, the 3000 sound isn't something that special that one should chase, it is the whole package that makes it killer. I'm glad Linn ported the OS to the 60, otherwise I would probably go for the 3000, since the interface is worth more to me than the sound of the 60. I'm glad I can have both.

I agree, the only reason I mentioned the s3000 is because of the filters for each voice.. but why would you say the 60/rack sampler? isn't the keyboard version of any sampler pretty much the same?

for example the 60 with the eps 16 vs. 60 with eps16 rack?

and I only imagine adding something to the 60 cuz I wish it had some filters.. I know when I used to make beats strictly on the eps16, cleaning up the drums with filters was amazing.. it added a real crispy quality to the snares, hihats.. and bump to the kicks.. I just hated the sequencer..

Well, I think working samplers is pretty front panel intensive, so I prefer to have a rack mounted above the 60 so I just look up and work. Keyboard samplers would work just fine, but I tend to keep one set of keys as a controller (K5000 synth) and my samplers as racks.
