THIS is Proto type MPC3000!!

serial number is 2.
There is no air-duct in back panel.

The print of the controller panel is also a little different.

Sound is Fatter than normal 3000!

Far as da 'controller pannel' only thing look diff 2 me is u got dat 'alt' next to kick + snare.

But 1 of ur pics aint uploaded rite - maybe dat got da serial, or da 'controller pannel' differences.

Might be a "Pre-Production" near final version of the machine.

It's not the true, original, development prototype though.

More likely, the production and manufacturing prototype.

The original development prototype of the MPC3000 was called an MPC-80.

Perhaps open the machine and take some good close up inner shots of the circuit boards and power supply.

Interesting stuff.

i stated the first dif i saw, then edited my statement after noticing more difs'- like the space,&,and # locations

Hardware in this shot looks to be early production hardware.

IE: The final "this is how it's going to be" / "pass it around the board for approval/last minute change" version.

A lot more chips in blue sockets. ( stuff that is hard soldered in production versions )

Some better close up shots of the various boards would allow a better confirmation.

Which OS is running in this machine ?

OS　is upgraded 3.11.

Some facts.

Prototype development hardware for the AKAI unit's doesn't look so "complete".

This machine looks to be an early manufacturing production prototype rather than a development prototype.

Final 3.11 software wouldn't run on the development prototype without some kludging.

Unrar to floppy disk and try booting.

If the machine boots and runs then it is a manufacturing prototype or a revision prior to final manufactured product we all know as a MPC3000.

Some touches I like.

The NVRAM battery in a socket facilitating user replacement.

A certain "port" or jumper still present next to the OS-ROM sockets. ( could be for many purposes )

NVRAM in a socket.

...and a point to note about the output board ... neither good nor bad...

Subjectively different electrolytic caps present which "may" contribute to a "sound" of sorts.

Some thing I don't like ...

No back panel air vents for the linear power supply. Spells "very hot" indeed.
