I went to G.C. to buy BUT.....

I went to Guitar Center yesterday to test out a MPC4000. They pulled the only brand new one in a box that they had and opened it for me. I go to turn it on and it doesn't work. Didn't power on or anything. I set aside my whole Sat morning to test this thing out and I get nothing. There were 3 salesman there and 2 said not to bother with it while one said it was a good machine. I like to stay opened minded (the reason why I tested it out in the first place...although I have 3 MPC3000's, 2 MPC60's and an SP1200) After reading some reviews and talking to several people that own this machine I thought I 'd give it a try. Now they are ordering me a "new" brand new one and I'll wait till it gets here.......

For the MPC4000 users that were MPC3000 users, what do you like about this machine and what are the drawbacks, if any, compared to the MPC3000. This is not a VS. post but I'm just looking for users who have made the switch......This is purely opinion and will be taken as such. Also I will adding this to my set-up along with the machines above. I will NOT be using this to replace anything.... Peace

I would like to know too. do you incorporate all 3 into your set up, or is one a backup and one is at a remote studio or something?

naw forreal, I have one I use and one for a back up.( A mc I deal wit gave me the third one for doin his project. He bought it off eBay but couldn't use it. He came by my spot so I could show him. After about a week He decided making beats wasn't for him and we made the deal)

One will always be a back up. I have 2 black LE's and one white. I have a room being bebuilt for recording. I keep my main mp in the studio. I keep the second one i at my computer desk in the bedroom.(the white one I just got will probably be used to help offset the price of the new4K. I know its sounds crazy....but its a method to the madness One

Good looks on the explanation. That makes sense. Two LE's are straight pimp holmes, do your thang! That setup makes much sense. Dre's set up, well, capricious at best.

A lot of the technology developed for the LINN MIDI STUDIO never made it to the 9000. ( despite the software for operation becoming available as an option ).

Whilst the LINN MIDI STUDIO looks like it would have been amazing all those years ago; some of you who have used a fully loaded Forat F9000 will have experienced the same type of feature and function set.

A FORAT F9000 expands on the ideas that were going to be present in a LINN MIDI studio.

If you have a 9000 then B&B at FORAT can turn it pretty much into the LINN MIDI STUDIO, minus the remote trigger/programming interface.

Everything gets used, just not on every track. I've spent the last 3 weeks copying my sp1200/mpc60 libraries to my 3000 for access. The 3000's all have built in zip drives so it makes things alot faster. Diff songs or vibes call for diff things.

My little brother just got into production too. Since he really couldn't afford a MPC yet, I let him get the spare 60 I have(he tried to get the SP too but that doesn't leave the crib) See everything gets used. 1

smart move giving the little one the 60 and not the SP.

From the look of the Linn Midi Studio, it looks like it basically is an MPC 60 with a shit load of faders. 26 Seconds of sample time, the 4x4 pad layout, Hihat decay slider, the floppy drive. It is the missing link between the Linn 9000 and the MPC 60. I am just surprised at how much of the 60 is present before the involvement of akai (it is after all a Linn product).

The remote panel is so dope. but I like the 60's layout better. It looks like Akai grabbed that idea for the S6000 and other detachable panel samplers.

I would love to get a clear shot of the LMS control panel.
