Are you sure it doesn't have the memory expansion. There are some more pics of the inside on this site and the small card in the front look similar to the memory expansion of the 950.

That sure does look like a memory expansion. It's the correct size and is connected to the memory expansion socket.

That board is not the memory expansion, it doesn't look anything like it.

The memory expansion board has 6 (two rows of three) chips on the visible surface.

I have one in my MPC60.

Isn't there some of the expansions with the chips on the other side ?
The picture you posted looks like one of the recent Sequentix boards which I also have.

i believe the mpc60 is now sold...I wonder if someone from here bought it

I think they have chips on both sides, but then there are the original Akai boards, some third-party versions and hacks.

It certainly looks unusual, whatever it is...

yes it surely does. I just had a closer look and there are no solder pins on it except the connetion to the mainboard. It seems like an empty PCB.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Not all memory expansion boards use through hole components.

That board is a expansion board by Mutec.

As it has an IB-105 HD interface as well, I'll probably have to search for an Atari Megafile 60 or similar, later on. Maybe it would even work with a DMA/ SCI connector in order to connect it to a SCSI HD? Anybody ever tried that?

be aware that the atari megafiles are known to be quite noisy...
maybe its an idea to look on some atari forum....maybe theres may be a modern solution for this ...like the HxC people have done for the floppy drives

Oh yes, these old HD's are noisy for sure. Probably try the DMA/ SCSI connector instead, as stated in this link:
