I have spent the last month researching and am up to speed with the tricks that allow mpcstuff to charge ugly prices for floppy disk drives

As well as a few before me, I have the ability to reconfigure brand new floppy drives
to fit the classic machines.
My plan is simple! Put an end to these criminal prices on the market

Perfect! ...as my only floppy-drive instruments are an S950 and 60 too. Sooner or later, the drives will die; especially being almost 30yo already.

Well I am only going to get in enough to cover the demand

It's been a lot of work, and checking data sheets the past month. It all paid off yesterday when I tested my first (new) drive

Anyway guys.... Drop me some names and numbers as this is a short term plan.

Once my son is born my circuit board tinkering days may be over.

Its a good thing you planned to do that.
If you really want to kill the criminal prices why not just give the knowledge ? :D


But, really actually the best thing to do is to invest in an HxC floppy emulator.

My 950 is running one. It took me a almost an afternoon to understand the thing but:

- no floppys anymore
- the SD card can hold a massive amount of floppy images.
- i can save floppy images copies on my computer.
- convert floppy images and copy them on the sdcard > play.
- i can convert my old floppys too, and load them without a problem.

You need a PC and a 10€ internal floppy, that's it.

Best think i bought so far.

The information is out there my friend, my services are aimed at people who need it
Not everyone is confident with pcb work (it's not that easy)

I am aware of HCX, but I restored my mpc 60 and would like to keep it original
Many other people I know feel the same.

In fact this is not very difficult to replace an S950 disk drive :

1-> Take any PC compatible floppy disk drive
2-> Take any Floppy cable:
- Cut wires N°10 & 14 & 16.
Connect the wire 10 (S950 side - /DS0) to the wire 14 (PC Floppy disk side -> /DRVSA).
Connect the wire 16 (S950 side - /MTRON) to the wire 10 (PC Floppy disk side -> /MOTEA).
3-> Add an 1Ko pull-up on the /RDATA lines (wire N°30) OR change R18 in the S950 by an 1Ko resistor.

Connected the PC floppy disk drive with this modified floppy cable.

That's all :wink:

There are many variations to these modifications, some of which are listed on posts within this forum.

The simple fact is this

If a modification has the slightest error you can kill the drive and risk damaging your machines internal fuses

Hard to burn anything with this ;)

I disagree, I blew the t2.5a fuse on the 60 because of one false move on my first attempt.

And I have pcb experience

Do you want the S950 floppy interface schematic ?
There are only 56Kohms pull-up on the inputs signals:
So if you make a shortcut between wires on floppy cable the current will 5/56000=0,000089A... Hard to burn a 2.5A fuse...

The only way to burn the fuse is to make an shortcut on the +5V or +12V power lines... These power lines are on the floppy power connector...
But in fact this not the problem here since the modification to do is only on the floppy cable...
