Some idiot gave me an insensitive pad mod. WTF ???

So ,like the title says, I found out that some idiot gave me an insensitive pad mod.

When I got my MPC the pads were terrible. Double triggers and not very sensitive.
I got new pads and sensor sheet from vst service a year or 2 ago which cleared up most of the double triggering but I still couldn't get full velocity when hammering (with my hands) the pads as hard as I could.

The other day I got the pad sensitivity mod done . (schematic is lurking around the forum somewhere).

The person who did the mod said my MPC already had some extra resistors soldered onto it that effectively halved the sensitivity. WTF is that all about ?
No wonder I couldn't hit it hard enough.

I had the extra resistors removed. The trimmers I had added were 47k instead of 50k (not on purpose, closest value tech had) but it's still done the job.
Now pads are super playable. No double triggers, and nice velocity response. I can now reliably go from soft to hard and get full velocity hitting with a comfortable force.

Now I know why people like playing these things so much

Anyhoo, the moral of the story is - if you get new sensors and your pads are still crap, make sure you don't have extra resistors f'ing it up.

I really need to get my pads sorted - I'm just on 'full velocity' all the time as normally I have to hammer the pads like you describe... which is crap

MPC3000/60 second hand buyers have to have a shopping list - screen/pads/tact switches etc etc

I'm fully working(or at least my MPC is, lol) for first time in 5 years. w00 Hoo !!!
Now that I've finally did it it feels worth the money I've spent over the years, where as when my pads weren't so playable and my inverter whine was doing my nut in I wasn't so sure.
I've already had my tact switches,pads and sensors replaced so everything is nice and responsive.
I just need something to fill my floppy bay and I'll be maxed out.

the Gotek floppy emulators are damn cheap - I'd go for one.

you've inspired me to get new sensors - I've also been thinking fat pads, but am on the fence about it...

You got any recommended sellers for Gotek's ?

Try the fat pads and if you don't like them, put your old pads back in and sell the fat pads.I think the sensors will be making the biggest difference. Some people seem to like fat pads, others not so much. I've never tried them.

It's the 3000 you've got, isn't it ? Think you might be stuck with inverters for now

there is a three don here where people recommend Gotek seller, and a specific version that is best for the 60.

I'll prob do what you say and get them just to try out.

I'm resourceful when it comes to parts, and know a good Akai guy so I'll be ok inverter wise.

PSR was having problems getting a Gotek to work in his MPC60, and an HxC was recommended instead...

I best get the one they recommend or I'll be waking up with a horses head in my bed, or even worse , they send the boys round to do the biz to my new LCD with their bats.

someone def post link to a working Gotek, it was one of the 40ish price range ones. look through all the threads you'll find it.

Yeah, sus that out, $40 gotta be better than 100 Euro!

(For some...I probably spend too much on mine...by the time you get 3.10 ROMs, an MPC60 SCSI interface, SCSI-SATA bridge, and SATA CF reader, along with cables and adapters, it starts to add up!)

I'd like to see where that resister in the MPC is located. I don't have MPC-60, but I'm interested. Can you post pics?

When you say "that resistor" , there was more than one involved.
I don't have any pics.Taking pics didn't occur to me or the person that did the work.

I think the resistors that were f'ing up my pads had been soldered to where the trimmers go in the sensitivity mod that's lurking around the forum somewhere.
Grab the schematic from that thread and you'll be able to see whats what.
