mpc 60 repairs (screen)

hey if any one out there has ever had to get a screen for there 60 how much was it and were do i go akia or were.thanks

Backlight or LCD?

Im not really sure, possibly the whole lcd but im guessing just the back light! because, the letters are fine but the background is kinda dark.

Backlight, a service center in your area should be able to do it, you can get the backlight from www.midi-rakete.de. he's got the best in the business.

I ordered one from http://backlights.telesisgear.com/ for my S3000XL which is the same as a MPC60 II and the quality was top notch. Stay away from http://www.backlights.co.uk/. I ordered one for my S3000Xl and one for my MPC60 II from them. One worked the other did not. Still waiting after 3 weeks for a reply to my email.

Yeah, I got a few from Backlights.co.uk and was less than pleased. I had to trim the plastic to get it to fit and it ended up opening the seal.

Midi-rakete has always been great, and he will make what you need if you give him the dimentions of the backlight in question, and he'll give you a discount on the ones you measure for him, since you are expanding his catalog.

Never tried telesis, but good to know they are good.

Okay I have a MPC60II and I think the LCD maybe going bad. Its rather dark and I have to get really close to see some things on the screen. I am a newbie at this so first of all i would like to know.

1. I dont know the difference in LCD and Backlight, so what is the difference? I have a MPC2k and its way bright so I am lost.

2. Are there any pictures posted so I and all the Newbies can see what an MPC60II screen looks like when it is working properly?

3.The Backlight shop in the UK site is down. I know there is another place in California (Telesisgear.com) that replaces them and can do it for cheap if you send them the actual screen. Id rather deal with someone in the states because if something goes wrong I can always call them back and demand a refund much easier. Has anyone had any experience from Telesis? Their prices are real cool and would make it real easy to get this repaired.

FORAT is cool but to pricy, if I had a phat record contract or if my ford tempo was sittin' on 20's and cromed out. I would send it there JUST to get the damn screen fixed. SON! haha!

Telesis seems good, lots of happy customers. Your problem is the backlight.

The backlight is a LED wafer that slides in behind the LCD screen. It acts as a light source so you can see the LCD better. If you can adjust the LCD contrast and see the LCD blocks get darker then your display is ok, you just need a backlight. Telesis (www.telesisgear.com) is great for backlights. I have ordered S950 and MPC60 backlights from them and had no issues. You might also want to make sure the problem is not your inverter (power supply for backlight).

If the backlight is just dim then the inverter should be fine, no?

Oh yeah. Sorry. Its been on my mind though, I have a S950 that has a bad inverter on it that I need to replace.

Does the bad nverter make the backlight dim, or just off?

All Inverter problems I've seen shut that ish down right quick.

Its very hard to see I have to turn the contrast up to a little past halfway to see anything decently. Anything below that is dark. I have a calculator watch screen brighter than the 60's screen and I think the watch is from the 80's!

I can make out the text i just got to get ral close and I got a lamp overhead. When the contrast is down its just blackedout and when its way up its lighter but nothing can be seen. No text or nothing.

Inverter? Whaaaat?! I am a Newbie, I havent the slightest clue what that is. I have MP60mk1 Spec book would that help me figure out what that is?

Nah dude, the contrast control is working normally, the middle os where it needs to be when you are looking straight at it, if you tilt it back you'll need to adjust the contrast, it's for angle viewing that the extreme settings are present.

All you need is a back light. You really should read the whole 60 FAQ, it's the second thread in the 60 forum. Check out the stuff about backlights.
