Elm/whomever: 3k and program(s)

How do we get by with only using one program on the 3000. Can it be strectched besides using the velocity thing.

Elm, ask Rog(er Linn) to upgrade it to atleast 4 programs tot.

What is a way to use multi - drums and samples all on this 1 machine?

I got two words for you, Rack Sampler.

Using multiple programs would be cool, especially with 32Mb's, but seriously, the MPC is soo much more than a sampler, you got 4 midi outs for a total of 64 midi channels of goodness, spread over 99 tracks. Remember that this machine was not intended to be a groovebox for bedroom producers, but a sequencer and sampler for professionals, and I mean successful professionals. It was meant to be the control center of monster midi set ups. It's got a great sampler, but sample based music has changed and if you need access to that many sounds a rack sampler should cure your woes. Didn't you say you have a Z4?

Asking Linn to upgrade the 3000 when he has his own products and company to work on would be shortsighted and probably insulting.

I wouldn't give up the ease of use and great design of the 3000 for the ability to use multiple programs, but you might consider it if it really gets to you.

just wanted to know if there was a trick I didnt know. i undertand the midi.. I love the 3k, just wanted to do everything in there but...
the 3k + Z4 is like the 4k but better.

Cool, I hear you on that 3k + rack beating a 4k, I very much agree.

The 4000 ain't *that* complicated to use though.. in some areas I even find it easier than the 60.

Are we talking 3.10 60 ? cuz it doesn't get smoother than that!

I guess once you learn your way around, but I still don't want such a complicated MPC, especially if it is the center piece of the rest of my gear.

Honestly, having so much information on the main screen is a huge turn off to me. But it would serve someone better if they could only own one piece of gear, but even then I would probably opt for the 3k or 2k OG.

I would rather have a 4k than a triton, but the triton can burn audio cd's, can the 4k do that yet?

you know ? i second tht also, with too much going on , with tht little screen. i demoed one, and it is waaaaaaaay to much going on for my liking. the xl, is just right. fo real

Wise words. For drums and percussion I fire off Battery, microtonic, Kontakt and an S2800i from the MPC60II and generally use it as a master to keep Cubase SX steady (its great as a transport controller as well). Sure, use it with the old gear but its good to think outside the box and see just how flexible the MPCs are for controlling more advance gear. While it can't compete with modern DAWs for intensive speed editing on non-percussion parts, its much faster and inspirational in many ways - I mean, where's the repeat key on cubase?. Its much faster changing tempo on the MPC etc.

It is a deep bit of kit.

difference between a 2kXL and a 3K? and add a Z4 with either one of them.

meaning I have both. I love the 3K for wht it is. But there is more options on the 2K - editing feautres, programs, etc.

I have both hooked up to a z4, but I can use the $ if i got rid of one.

speaking of MPC + battery/kontakt combo, how many of you guys do this ? its alot easier to drag and drop on the DAW, as well as u get way higher bit rates, and much fuller sounding samples is when u play em straight from the computer..

(eg. the differance when i play an 808 bd on the DAW vs sampled on the MPC is huge)

but i love having everything on the mpc and ready to go without messin around on my pc to get started..

Yeah, it's the different sound it adds that has me going to my 60.

I would sell the XL, you probably have everything it has and more on the Z4, but that's my preference, I'd much rather use a 3k than a xl, I use a 60 with an S6000 and I hardly ever use the 6000's more advanced features, (I use the shit out of the 60 though!) it is just handy to toss samples to it and not worry about the sampling time, I sequence with the 60 and put more critical samples in the 60.

But it's up to your preference, the mpc is more key to me as a sequencer than as a wickid sampler, so I toss those duties to the rack and have an interface I really mesh with. If you mesh with the XL and you need the other features it offers, by all means sell the 3000 to a good home.

yo how is the 6000? how much u get one for? my esi 2000 is messin up savin beats and i was just thinking bout gettin rid of the s2000 and the esi to cop a s5000 or 6000. did u get urs with usb in it allready?

yeah, USB full memory, FX, 16outs internal zip and external for 600.

Sometimes I love ebay. I was in debt for months after that purchase, but it does it's thing.

It's cool, I really don't use much of the advanced shit in it, although I know how, I just don't need a lot of it, it's mainly for sampletime and nice multi's.

Easy to get around on. I was gonna get the 5000 cuz they were going for 400 and I liked the look and size much better, but this popped up so I took it, the remote has really come in handy lately too, but I still think the 5000 looks cooler and would be better to use mounted right above the mpc like that MFC filter thing.

thats tight i saw one fully loaded for like 900 on the bay. imma keep lookin around though. I just want one full sampler with all the fixins.
