Backup your floppies...

I just want to give yall the heads up on imaging your floppies. I keep all my images in folders on my computer incase anything happens to the disk. Well, rolled over one I needed with my chair and broke it. Pulled out a fresh disk imaged it back on there and now Im set. Hope this helps.

What do you use to image them?

i have been wanting to get everybody with factory disks to image them and put them up somewhere, we have a few already at the 60 yahoo group, any 60 heads have factory disks they're willing to share?

i always like to check them out because they are pro recordings of samples so sometimes the sound they got is impressive.

I feel you about those factory disks the only one for the 60 I have is the studio set but I think you can still download that from Linn. I def think we should all share the ones we got. I'm wondering how many there are too because I know they would keep releasing them for a while. Here is a small incomplete list.

What is the point of imaging??? Does Windows really mess up the files that bad? I'm just curious b/c I'm always looking 4 baccup options since I don't have SCSI. I have been copying the contents of the disk directly 2 my hard drive running Win98 without incident. Any suggestions, possible pitfalls... holla. -uno-

Nino, sounds like your all good man. On XP the disk won't be recognized so imaging is a good option, plus you can compress and create a self extracting file. I think your method is good for anyone still using 98 though.

can you take the data off a 60 floppy put it on the computer HD then back onto a different 60 formatted floppy and load it successfully?

Good 2 know gentleman. I have XP on my desktop (ahem... wife's computer) so I will need an imaging program if I upgrade in the future. Yeah I chose 98 b/c it's less buggy and RAM intensive than the later Win OSes i.e. 2000, XP. I can insert a floppy (any floppy... even my OS 2.XX disks worked), save the contents to the hard drive, insert another OS 3.10 formatted disk, copy the info 2 the disk and load it in my 60. So how do yall get sounds in the MPC editor if XP doesn't recognize the disk? Or does it recognize the disk but write all kinda code 2 the place the 60 writes it's code also? Remember that 1 cat on the yahoo group that said the MPC editor ruined his PC running XP??? I love the MPC editor (big up Mike) b/c I also convert my sounds 2 .wav now so that in the future if I ever change samplers (i won't LOL) i don't have 2 convert my library. -uno-

It doesn't write anything to the floppy disk it just asks if you want to format. I don't use MPC Editor because I do most of my sampling in the s950 now but I think there is a registry patch to use if for XP.

Have to try it on an SP1200 disk and se if it works on that one as well

2wice- Got it now There is a registry patch 4 XP. They tell u what 2 write on mpc3000.com but the site is down right now. Good look on the responses. -uno-

Because it's free and it's compatible with all windows OS it is probably the ideal program to use for all 60 users.

Yep, just got done backing up some stuff on XP and it works perfect. Try it out you'll see, just read and write.
