scratchy output

for some reason, the sound on my 60 becomes a lil scratchy at random
i cant really explain why or when it happens
i did include a small soundclip just in case anyone has had the same problem and knew of a solution
none of the samples are scratchy and i did not record them very loud into the mpc.

Something happened to me a while ago like that. I don't remember the exact sound it made but I think it was similar.

It only happened with certain sounds on this one disk I was using. I tried other disks and it didn't happen. What I did was threw out the disk and resampled the sounds and I haven't had the problem since.

yeah corruption on import can do it too. Also if you have the memory expanded you may have to clean the connector, I've seen that solve similar issues.

what if one output is louder than the other? I need to get mine callibrated or something....

I used to have crazy problems with my 60 sound kinda like this. 16 levels didn't work right everything between the octave had terrible distortion, and 3000 imports were crap. I reseated my voice chips and it's been great ever since.

its on every sample that i sample in
this 60 has the expanded memory. ill look into cleaning the connectors. any advice as to what to use?
also, you mentioned reseating the voice chips... does that require soldering?

just unscrew the memory expansion, take it out and use alcohol on a q-tip. don;t douse it. just a bit of a cleaning.

reseating voice chips is just puching them back into their sockets gently but firmly, being careful not to flex the circuitboard.

let us know if that solves it.

You did make sure it isn;t a bad cable or bad channel in your mixer first, right?

i did check all my cables, inputs, mixer... everything.
ill do the memory cleaning and reseating the voice chips
im sure it will be fixed doin these things

i found the voice chips
cant locate the ram
can someone point me in the right direction?

ive seen some pics of some other folks' insides of their 60s and i see the expanded ram circuit board
how can i not have that board but have the expanded memory sampling time?

Hmmm....

A close look and this appears to be a "brazilian hack" RAM upgrade for the MPC60. ( I say this because of the made in Brazil RAM chips ).

Look close and you'll see additional RAM chips soldered on-top of the original ones.

The additional wires are to deal with mapping in and decoding the extra RAM.

This is the hack way of doing what a memory expansion board does.

Hardly pretty ... In theory though it probably works fine.

i havent had any problems with the sampling time. ive been able to use all of the 26 seconds.
i knew somethin looked funny inside when lookin at other folks 60 insides.
would i need to clean those ram chips to remove the fuzziness from the output?
