mpc 60/s950 vs. mpc 3000

I want to get either a mpc 3000 or a mpc 60 with a s950 and am stuck trying to decide on which one to get. Right now I am currently using an akai dps 16 for recording and am thinking about getting a mixing console in the future. The thing is is that I am afraid of getting to bright of a sound using the 3000 and to murky of a sound (ie not open enough) with the mpc 60/s950 combo. I'm basically going for the punchy bass kik, snappy snare, warm/thick yet clean kinda sound. I know that this issue has prolly been beatin' ta death but if you could help me it would be truly appreciated. Also, if you guys could give me any inside scoops on the machines (ie features, limitations etc.) it would be much appreciated as well. Once again, sorry if this issue is like beating a dead horse.

umm, I dunno, I have all that and honestly prefer my work flow with the S950/60 but that's what I learned on and became accustomed to.

I wouldn't worry about the 3K being overly bright though, it certainly isn't, it sounds real ill and honestly the one beat I made from it..which I didn't like at all came out sounding really well mixed for wahtever that's worth.

I dunno, I'll never sell my 60 or S950 but sometimes I do feel their too dark, murky but when I hear MC's over my tracks I like emmm..

I also have OCD and a decision making deficit

Just to add to those points don't think of 60/S950 as the only combo. There are other good samplers out there. Neither MPC can do everything you can dream up but they both have 4 midi outs.

true, you could just as easily go 60 with a Boss SP303 or 3000 with an EPS....

well why would u get MPC60 AND 950. i'd say DONT get the 950, use mpc60 for your drums.

get a cheap used sampler like an akai S6000 then u can have TONS N TONS of sample space, you'd have hte lofi and the hifi, and this should cost about the same as an MPC3000, mpc3000 about $1200, mpc 60 wit 3.10 and scsi about $800, about $400 for an akai s6000...

and the scree nis detachable, i'd love to work that way put it over the mpc60 next to it's display, use the leather hand arm rest more...

Thanx for the input so far.lol at the ocd and decision makin' deficit remark. I've thought about doing a 2000xl and an eps 16 combo but came to the conclusion that I like the pads on the left and the locations of the timing correct keys on the roger lynns better. Although I do like the graphic waveform editing on the xl. And I guess one of the main reasons why I am considering getting an s950 is because of the low pass filter, and because of how you can program it to filter in and out ie like the early blackmoon days. Also, how unique is the filtering of the s950 in comparison to other samplers?

just get an mpc60 and an akai s6000 you won't regret it:-)

i got a 60/eps16+/s3000/tx16 combo

60 and 950 is ill too, but i went for other samplers just cause the 60 already has a 12 bit sampler. then i picked up the tx16 for extra 12 bit samplin time.

60 works real nice with alot of samplers

That's what I have and use. I don't really see a need for
a 60 over a 3000. And yes, the 950's filter is prototypical
Black Moon. You will recognize it as soon as you hear it.

yeah i use all my samplers at the same time ( asr-10, mpc60, mpc2kXL except my sp-505 maybe ) and I gotta admit that the asr + mpc60 is a really nice combo. Sounds nice, crunchy and warm... haaaaa love my samplers

I have been using a S3000xl and a mpc 60. Sweet setup. the s3000xl is the sampler section of the mpc3000. great sound and I love chopping shit up with it ..
