so I traded my 1000 for a 60

and I made my first beat tonight. The controls took a little getting used to but.... Damn this thing is awesome.

One thing.... I was making a beat and I went to sample something new to add to it. After I finished recording I went back and all my sequences were completely wiped. Is this a regular thing?

Either way, 60>>>>1000 I've got to be the happiest beat maker in the world right now.

upgrade the os to get rid of that annoyance. or save seqs to floppy

haha i think we must have got our mpc's on the exact same night. Im happy as well, the 60s dope.

yeah I need to save up for the OS upgrade and memory. I don't know if I'll even bother though because they're so expensive and even with the upgrades the sample time is nothing special. That's the only drawback compared to a 1000. Dealing with 700KB of memory as opposed to 128MB. My favorite part is the menu buttons being right in front of you as opposed to linked to the pads. You get around seemlessly. Also I'm amazed by the construction compared to the other MPCs. It makes the 2000 look like a toy with it's cheap ass buttons. It's very sturdy, and seems like it'll last another 15 years.

With the newer os you can sample as long as you want, no 5 sec limitation and the newer os has memory compression that can double the sample time to 52.4 seconds.

Plus your SEQs won't be erased when you sample.

I'd love to git ma paws on a 60 & see what all the fussis about

well compared to my 2500 it's old school. The same model has been around for what, 10 years now without any changes for the most part? My 60 is old school, no question there. That's part of it's charm to me.

2000xl came out at the end of 1999. hardly 10 years. To me, it's like driving an old bimmer or benz. It's all about the 'feel'. Even if a toyota/honda has all the gadgets, the car itself just don't connect with the driver. Yeah, newer models are nice, BUT they're just not built the same, and design philosophy has changed over the years. early models were built to engineer's specs, but new models are the result of profitability. Sure, you need to replace maintenance items, but once you do that, youre good for anotehr 100 thousand miles. New or old, good machine is a good machine.

when did the 2k come out? the 2kxl is just the 2k with the options included for the original purchase price, right?
