s950 recording problem

Sorry for reposting this, but it gets way too frustrating to me and I need to figure out what's going on.

So, the problem is that when I try to sample a sound nothing is being recorded. Based on the manual and on common sense, I have plugged in correctly my source to the line in in the front panel, set up to a good level the record knob and get a good signal from the monitor out. Now, when I go to the rec page the level meter shows full overload without however any sound coming out from the monitor. Then I hit play on my source and the song comes out nice and clean from the monitor out. I hit rec but nothing gets recorded. The > symbol moves on but the meter continues to be stuck at full level.

I have also set my sampling time duration to 8000 and bandwidth to 10000. Based on my experience from my 2kxl, the level meter should move with the incoming signal played, but that's not the case. Something is **** up inside the s950, but man I can't figure it out. No way.

Sorry for the long post, but I tried it to be as much detailed as it can be, in case someone figures out what's going on. Thanx for your time!

When you first turn on the sampler can you get the TONE to come out or can you load up sounds off disc and play them back?

yeah, both the TONE pgm and sounds are loading fine. Actually, I haven't seen anything else wrong inside the sampler except the REC option.

Plug it to Line input
on page 3 of the rec menu select (1) analog input
Rec level on front open ?
monitor ?

All done as supposed. However, when I choose Phono I get the "T" mark on the meter, but nothing comes in, i.e. the level is way down. When I choose Line In, the "T" mark is nowhere and the level is all the way up. I guess it's fcked inside.

Anyway, I haven't checked it yet, but can I simply load .wav's taken from my PC? I mean, copy a couple of kicks from my PC on a disk and load them straight away inside the 950, as normal. I am asking this as I don't have right now a floppy drive on my PC and that machine is way too old and honestly I don't know anymore what works and what's not.

choose line in and turn the rec level knob down until it doesn't clip...c'mon dude!

No luck with that man. I wish it was that easy...

What S series samplers can do that, 3000XL and over??? (5k, 6k)

Isn't there any other way to get samples inside the 950, without having to record them or buying floppy collections?

PS Can the 950 load sample disks that were made for the 60/3000?

I was thinking that the format of the 950 is incompatible with PC's. That's fine. Still, that should be an AKAI format type, right? Is it the same with the 2kxl? Cause, I have this idea of buying a floppy drive for the 2kxl and then transfer sounds to the 950 through that.

All of the above of course due to the busted recording function on the 950. Bugger!

Oh man...I start feeling for you there. Why don't you try to give it back, wasn't that the one you bought for $450 from a shop? I would teach them selling a broken piece for that kinda money.

Concerning Akai floppy and sound formats, I collected a few links, maybe they help you. But I don't think it's as easy as using a 2000XL compatible floppy drive to transfer sounds, it doesn't work like that...
