Is there anything I can do to the power supply to make it work better/cooler at 240VAC, like I assume a correctly coded "S"/Australian 240VAC version would, rather than the "E,V" coded Euro/German 220-230VAC version it is designed as?

Found this info from an ebay listing...

This MPC3000LE was one of 5 LE's bought into Australia and requires no step down transformer (rated for 230V).

As long as you are pretty close in supplying the correct voltage it shouldn't be an issue.

Is the transformer inside the machine running hot or just the power supply circuit?

Transformers can get warm over time, though if it gets really hot right after you turn it on, there may be a short in the windings.

The power supply gets hot because the rectifiers and regulators are constantly doing lot of work. The heat created from the voltage conversion has to go somewhere. Since the whole circuit and heatsink is enclosed inside the unit with a few ventilation holes, it is hard for the heat to escape without making major modifications to the case.

You can replace thermal grease between the rectifier/regulators and the heat sink to improve the thermal transfer. Get one of the compounds that are used for computer CPUs.

You can also replace the capacitors in the circuit with smaller form factor ones to allow more room for the heat to radiate out. This won't really help a whole lot from a thermal perspective, but if you still have the original capacitors in there, it's probably time to replace them.

There are probably better designs for a heatsink, though I don't know of anything off the shelf that you could use.

Alright, So i just got my hands on another 3000LE. Missed my old one too much and always wanted another ever since I sold it. You may of seen it floating around ebay for a couple of weeks, and I snatched it up. I haven't done any new photos of her yet, but will get some of her in the crib soon with the other toys.

For the record I have just taken one of the reference photos from ebay. She is a 110v, Akai 3.11, Number 0212, at present internal flopppy, but I have a CF reader to equip her with within the next few days. She came with a dope custom made walnut effect enclosure to, which is very high quality.

I'm just waiting for my vailixi chips from Rohan to turn up now and I will be all set.
It's only been 1 year and 4 months since I ordered and payed, but I know how slow the mail can be, especially economy international shipping.... :fku:
....Any day now......

Yeah saw that one listed a few times up in Nottingham I think it was. At least she went to a good home and stayed in the UK. Will update the list when I get to a computer.

Edit: Updated the list, that's about 26 out of 2000 (approx 1.25%) accounted for lol. Surely there are more forum members rocking the LE???

just picked up this black beauty, previous owner wasn't giving it much love
it's apparently got like 20h max use.. guy never even sampled with it so it's technically a virgin i guess

anyways add me to the list:

I'm using the white slider cap from my MPC60mk1.
If anyone has an extra grey slider cap, holla at me!!!
I'll buy it ASAP!! (within reason, I'm not spending $50 or $100 for it)

Shout out to clint246clint for helping me post these pics.

One.

I always wondered if those pads really glowed in the dark, and for how long? Never noticed the purple glowies before, maybe I wasn't paying attention at the back of the class...I've added you onto the list AR5TH, thanks for posting.

That was me that sold that MPC. I was told that by the old Akai rep who bought them into Australia. Coincidentally I bumped into him the day I bought it from the original owner who he remembered selling it to. He was able to fill me in with all the information.

Incidentally he knows Rohan quite well as well. He was the dude that told me he had sold him a ROM copying device prior to him going MIA.

Well, they all can't be pristine & pretty :), so here is mine. Bought it few months ago at great price via craigslist here in Boston, MA. Awesome machine, still love my 60II the best though.
