Weak Forum?

im so jealous of ur set up, mpc 60 and xl, that is sick. i just have the xl: if u had to pick one unit which would it be? are the drums better on that 60 than the xl?

Besides the fact that the Valaxi OS costs between 214 to 314 Dollars and that it also includes a hardware change/update.

To be honest, if I had to pick one, I'd choose the 2kxl hands down. I've got it totally maxed out and it's the best all around groove machine ever built. It hasn't got anything great but it features enough from everything. All other models, earlier and later, are missing something, either on storage, functionality, sound, character etc.

However, the 60 is simply the best *drum machine* (not sampler!) ever made. I'm simply addicted to it's character on the drums and the groove of the OG ASQ-10.

i learned on the 1k , then picked up the 60 , now have a xl. My fave is by far the xl. The 60 does give sounds more punch but i soon plan to pick up a s950 for strickly drums.

when people say the xl souns thin its usually hear say , would top producers still use the xl if it made your beats sound thin and weak. Its a smal difference and mixing and masering correcly can fix that.

60's would be really dope if they had filters.

Sorry Duke, but got to respond.

1. Bring what? I'd say bring a 2500 and lets see who can deliver more punch and head nod with the same samples and sequences. I've done that already and know the difference by far.

2. JJ sure buries Reason and FL. But not the ASQ-10 v2. Nothing can beat that except the original version on the 60's and 3000's. Also, not all 16bit machines sound the same. It's simple and straightforward, just cop an ASR and compare it to a 2kxl. Then take that put it next to a 1k. Last but not least, what's 300$ for the Marion SCSI plus another 200$ for an external SCSI MCD? Well, that's actually almost the price of a second hand stock 2kxl - MCD.

3. Mine says the same too. However, without the filters and the extra storage, it's almost useless for anything else than Preemo's boom bap. And although I love that shit, it's not always what I want to deliver. That's why I keep my 2kxl next to the almighty 60.

However, no bad feelings on your comments. I hope you do the same on mine.

Preemo does not sample in the 60... its al 950... he only seq in the 60

Does it makes any difference besides the filter? I own a 950 too and I also know about Preemo's workflow. Still, it doesn't make any difference to me besides that filter.

dont make any diff to me to... ! but for some people it does... the 950 seems to be 1% dif then the 60.. as the adicts here say !!
Personally i think al this stuff about diff in sound is bullshit to me... just use what you like !

the s950 has a bit of extra sparkle with the 48khz setting

The s950 also has the advantage over the (OG operating system) MPC 60 that you can sample longer than 5 sec at a time.

These are both pretty old, pretty basic machines without too many advanced features so this particular forum is pretty slow compared to the newer model/more widespread mpcs. I think most people that get these particular units are already into making beats, probably already had a beat machine of sorts, and already have some kind of grasp of how these things work. So yeah, the forum is kinda dead. Weak? These things are 15+ years old, anything that needs to be said is stickied at the top of this forum. You sir, are the weak one, needing "inspiration" from a forum.
