Will The 60 ever be Obsolete?

I am getting a 60 MK1 this saturday.

Do i need it ? not really. I have always wanted one and the 60 and it is the best looking MPC imho. I can produce my tracks faster in logic, but an MPC is much more inspirational. I think there will always be a place for the 60. I love the 12 bit sound..
I am really looking forward to jam with this machine and to hook it up to my Emax1.

The 60 will be even stronger if Rohan might port his Valixi os to it in 2009..

i got my 60 and ended up selling my 2000. like it so much more

Obsolete? Godamn, I still see people using the Drumulator and you think the 60 will be obsolete?? No way in the near and far future.

No disrespect but that cant be... I mean it might sound a lil different but to do a track on a 60 and the a 500 and his skill be mad off to a NOOB status is not sounding right to me...

Obsolete no, but younger kids comming up don't feind for hardware like older cats. In my band/crew we have 5 guys that make beats, 3 of them use MPC2000's (we are all late 20's early 30's)
I find the younger cats I work with are oftern on software.
Someone new to production can pick up Reason or Fruityloops and get something out of it in seconds, no need to learn midi, or spend loads of money.


For me having a AKAI or an E-MU in the studio is as much a love/hobby thing as it is work thing.

I agree with you but I dont wanna down any software based producers because it really doesnt matter what you use to produce heat... Now me personally I am a hardware head and I have used and still use software but I love the feel of actually modeling my sound with knobs and faders. Now as the midi goes... Cats gotta get up on it and learn the functions of it. Midi is not really that hard once you understand it function.

So true. These new producers want to use what ever is the easiest. I love the hardware. I got 4 MPC's.

yeah but I prefer the 60 over the 500... not saying you cant make some nice stuff with the 500.

I will point out that you can turn a dope into a noob with a machine... by taking a machine he completely has no idea about and putting it in front of him.. or by loading a foreign language onto a machine he is about to use... O.o haha

yes i agree with that. you can make dre sound like a noob if you give him a cash register and say its a new mpc and ask him to make a beat with it. you can make premo sound like a noob if you gave him a brand new mpc that just came out and said make a beat in 5 minutes

but the way educatedhands said it... was clear that it wasnt a case of the beatmaker not knowing how to use the 500. apparently the 500 just automatically makes your beats wack. pffft... get a grip kiddo....
