They way they portrayed it in the article.... The beats were done in pre-production, then re-done in the studio. I know in the liner notes all the songs had two co-producers

The article was with one of those cats.... I think it was Mangini. They also did a lil bit with King Britt... Didnt talk to butterfly at all tho. If dude hadnt talked about replaying the songs to sound like the original samples... I dont think they wouldve had an article at all. Keyboardmag was like that back in the day. I actually remember the progression of time when they started having hip hop related interviews and stuff. I stopped reading around the time the MPC 2000 and ASR-X came out. I think thats the last isssue I have. The heralded "SAMPLING ISSUE".....lol Its pretty good actually a few tips I still use to this day.

On a different note..... Did you ever trigger the Emax with the 60? If so.... do you have a file/disk with the keymap already laid out? I was doing it one day and we had a power outage. I get frustrated every time I think trying to go and do all that work agian.

I have a similar setup to the 60/asr combo.. instead of the asr, I have the eps16.. I'm just waiting on this scsi zip drive to come in from an ebay auction and it's all gravy!

anybody notice a difference in sound between the asr and eps 16???

Yup, all the time. THe keymap is just chromatic, I make the map and make it the master, all programs then default to the chromatic assignment. It will **** up a program if you do it while it's loaded though, do it before you load anything.

Thanks for the reply... in doing so you inspired me to go ahead and try my hand at it again. This time it wasnt nearly as hard as I remember it being before. I just had to remember to set my midi port in the main screen after about 45 mins of fiddling. My intent actually was to ask you to send me a file with the pads mapped out. Im SO VERY glad I didnt. That wouldve just been the LAZY way out. LOL. I dont like asking for help unless I ABSOLUTELY cant figure something out between two manuals. Anyway... thanks for the inspiration. I was knocking out basslines on the Emax all day.

I cut my teeth on the eps 16 plus. The sound on the eps is a little more rugged. However; the same sound can be achieved on the ASR-10 by converting the sample rate. Have fun!!!

The ASR-10 and the MPC 60 is match made in heaven....Keep your ASR-10 master that shit....Then when you get the 60, your going to be laughin.
Im using that exact setup....the only prob is I feel one or the other gets jealous when Im not touch it.

Not that much--I have an EPS 16 Plus---but the ASR is a stereo sampling board.

sorry to bring this topic up again, but I am still not sure what to do. I haven't got enough to keep the asr AND buy an MPC60, so should I keep the ASR or sell it and buy a 60?

Elmacaco said it best. Keep the ASR and add a 60. If you dont have enough money, chill and save up the money. May take you weeks, months or up to a yr. Ease back and hold on to that 10 especially if you have a working one. Honestly neither machine is a replacement for the other. They compliment each other well tho.

jedi mind tricks, stoupe the producer is easily one of the best ever, all he uses is the asr 10

I hear you, and I will definitely bear that in mind. But if you had to choose between the ASR and MPC60 which one would you go for.

asr 10

if the 60 is expanded, I'd keep the 60, better sequencing pads. Then just get a cheap rack sampler and you'll be good. ASR is cheaper too.

If I had no choice but to to choose.... I would choose the ASR 10 (if its fully expanded). Its more versatile. You can do more with it... Simple as that.
