MPC 60MK2 a.k.a "the sh*t"

It's not too much, do you know how hard it must have been to port the 3000 software to the 60? Do you know how many new features you get with it? It is like a whole different machine.

You ought to go to the for sale section, there is Ernesto or something selling a package including a 60 for a grand. Great deal, and with 3.10

I am feeling your beat style Wally, it's reminiscent of Jel... you need to sequence a little tighter though, some of your loops aren't seamless, meaning there's a little tiny pause before it starts the loop over again, like in GREEN.

I've now used both old and new software versions and not having the update on mine doesn't bother me one bit. I love just punching in a floppy and loading some dirty kits, scsi is a pain.

Ha ha ha, this is my first time seeing anyone say something like this. It's usually the other way. Floppies suck. They take like 5 minutes to load a full program and aren't even that reliable. How is that better?

it doesn't cost an additional 450?

I can sit there with me and the machine, no other shit attached, load up a floppy (which takes just over a minute on my machine - no concern here) and just have fun. I can carry the machine in the case and that's it - no extra baggage when I'm staying out. Bitchin as far as I'm concerned.

You could do that with the 3.10 OS and get the mono/poly/note off, sound compression, no 5 second sample limit, better OS, I mean, damn!

I can live without it. If I need longer sample times I use my S2800i or Kontakt, you know. Sure, I spect many find Linn's update essential - and let's face it, the guy is a god for producing this piece of gold, but I'm happy enough with the old OS and I don't think forking out for the update will make my music any better.

Actually, how do you set up the old OS to control an external sampler? That question has come up a few times with no good answer.

Same way as with the update, I guess. You mean the pads controlling external sounds, right?. If anyone isn't certain, open up a sequencer like cubase, punch in each of the pads and open up the event or piano roll editor and see what each one's assigned to. Then just adjust your other stuff to those note numbers. Alternatively, use Midi key screen 3 and assign them that way - although I've not done it this way.

I usually use external sampling gear to sample the patterns I create on the MPC and then loop them using the MPC sequencer (by triggering the loops on a keyboard plugged into the MPC). Its great and very quick and easy to do and frees up sampling and pad space.

Cool, no I mean in the sequencer window, like, do you leave the sequence on Drum and assign a midi channel (is that on the main screen? or in some window) and do you turn local off or does it just not trigger the mpc sampler if you select the right midi channel?

Its all on the main screen, assigning midi channels to the relevant equipment and stuff. Unless its set to channle 16 (Drums) then the MPC wont sequence its internal drums. If you don't want the pads to trigger the internal sounds then turn the local off.
