Should be able to clean this mess up with a custom IDC26-IDC50 PCB, and custom IDC26-IDC26 cable, to take the existing IDC26 connection from the MPC3000 SCSI/D IN PCB, and convert it directly to an IDC50 connector for the internal 50 pin SCSI ribbon cable, replacing 3 pieces with one...

...or, using the off the shelf adapter above, you could desolder the DB25 connector from the DB25-IDC50 adapter, and solder a 26 wire ribbon cable onto the adapter PCB to replace the connector, with an IDC26 connector at the other end of the ribbon cable to plug into the MPC SCSI/D IN PCB.

More random, not necessarily related to each other, SCSI-CF thoughts...

A lot of basic IDE-CF type adapters will probably work fine as non-hotswap drives. It seems a lot more difficult to find a hotswap ATAPI memory card reader that works with the MPC3000, through a SCSI bridge. Hotswap may or may not be a desired feature for you.

The most common SCSI-IDE/ATAPI bridges seem to be the Acard bridges, not sure if your Yamaha bridge would have the same hotswap card reader compatibility, or even non-hotswap card reader compatibility, with the same card readers as the Acard bridges have.

When I get around to it, or someone else gives it a go, if it tests OK, then a SCSI-SATA bridge and SATA memory card reader might be another hotswap option for the MPC3000 and MPC60...

This SCSI-SATA bridge feeds power to the SATA CF reader, so it only needs a single power connection.

There is a version of the ATAPI 741 multicard reader that has a SATA interface, instead of an IDE/ATAPI interface, which might offer hotswap multicard support in the MPC3000 and MPC60 with a SCSI-SATA bridge.

It would be possible to place the SCSI-SATA bridge, or a SCSI-IDE/ATAPI bridge, right at the external SCSI port, and use the termination circuit on the SCSI bridge as a switchable terminator for when using, or not using, external SCSI devices. Then use a SATA or IDE cable of sufficient length to reach the memory card reader in the floppy drive bay.

It would most probably be DIY.

I think that the DB25-IDC50 adapters are sold as internal to external SCSI adapters, for PCs, which is why they have the PC backplane bracket. This would normally be configured as a DB25 female connector on the rear of the PC, as it is on the MPC, hence that being the only readily available configuration for the adapters.

It can easily be done with an external SCSI case, with the SCSI-SATA bridge and SATA card reader fitted internally, you could do the same with a SCSI-IDE bridge, which is what the ebay external CF drive vendors are doing.

No idea if there is a dedicated SCSI-SATA enclosure, with built in SCSI-SATA bridge, but I would doubt it.

But, this SCSI-SATA solution is in no way tested as yet, and the SCSI-SATA bridge is fairly expensive ($145+shipping, I think), so it is not a cheap option. This needs to be fully tested, and some of the cheaper SCSI-SATA bridges and SATA card readers tested for compatibility. It is not a working solution that I can recommend, just an idea of what might be possible as an alternative to the common SCSI-IDE/ATAPI solutions, 'IF' it works OK after being tested properly.

Ok, so many options and none of them really sticks out as the way to go

even finding the DB25 to IDC50 backplate in Europe seems difficult to start with

Guess I will get the stuff and see how and if it works, glad my ZIP is working for now, everything else is a Bonus..

Thanks for your help Simon.

No problem.

Yes, the DB25-IDC50 adapters seem very scarce now, I had trouble finding them, and do not have enough yet, so might be a good reason to go custom PCB.

Most of what is readily available now seems to use the HD50 connector, like on the MPC2000XL, or larger connectors, for later versions of the SCSI spec.

No probs, might try to order a couple for myself, to see if I can desolder the IDC50 connector from a SCSI bridge, and solder the SCSI bridge directly onto the right angle IDC50 pins sticking out the back of that adapter.

Have been thinking about how to do this for a while, and the right angle pins on that adapter might make it easy, if there is enough clearance to fit the SCSI bridge onto the rear of it.

Just ordered the stuff, I may get another CF adapter & bridge just in case mine is not good. Which CF Adapter with Black Bezel would you recommend?

I may go down to a local repairs shop to get the stuff soldered too, keep me posted how you get on.
