Should I switch from 4000 to 3000?

i say that would hold IF the mpc3000 actually sounded like the s3000, which I dont know, which is why I was hypotetical

I'll say this, for people expecting an astronomical difference between the 3000 and 4000's sampling engine....those people will be let down. But there is definitely a subtle difference. It's almost as if when sampling in, there is a slight dip in the high frequencies. It's there, but it's shouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone IMO. If you put bad sounding drums into it, they will still sound bad in the 3000 or 4000.

i understand, this is not magic. But, the difference with say a 950 and an mpc is blatant. If you sample a snare, hot, in both, you dont need to be an engineer to notice the difference, the one in the 950 simply blows the track up. I thought, based on the average enthusiasm about it, that the mpc3000 did the same thing, if not even more evident. Probably this is not the case then...

daft thing to say, but make sure the s3000 wasn't an xl difference between the 3000/3000xl sound wise is noticeable, xl is brighter with less low.

if the difference between the MPC4000 and the s3000 isn't enough for you, you need to start listening to a ASR10, or a Akai S1000/S1100 - or maybe a Emax or Roland S550.

regarding the MPC3000, I tend to find its playback is fairly true to what you sample rather than massively coloured, thicker than a more modern sampler like the 4000 though, night and day? maybe not.... I notice some of the punch people are on about in the snares more than anything else.

Another factor is how much I will grow into the 4000. As it is now I would definitely prefer the 3000, it has just what I need and nothing more. However, I think I will eventually exploit the extra functions of the 4000. 'm probably going to sit on the 4000 for the time being. Really appreciate the feedback.
