Hasn't froze a single time once, for the past 5 days
Did 3 things:
- Burnished/scuffed the pins inside most of the connectors. Used a nail file/emery board and basically ran/swiped it across the rows of the little pins in each connector a couple times (like swiping a credit card). If this doesn't get rid of any unseen corrosion/tarnish, idk what would. Be careful with this though; too much and it might make the pins skinnier and make it worse.
- Made sure the raw and freshly scuffed pins (which are now easily prone to corrosion since it don't have any corrosion protection on it anymore), weren't going to corrode in the future and applied Dielectric (silicon) grease lube. Basically poked/stabbed each and every little tiny pin, inside the dielectric grease tube's nipple opening (that make sense?). I bet that DeOxit gel stuff would be even better (I think it has a lubing agent in it too?).
- Read that it might be a failed battery backup to the CRAM(NVRAM) and a "short" could possibly help and reset it. So I shorted the CRAM/NVRAM on the main cpu board. I dont use batteries anymore; but it was easier for me to do this, this time around with no dissassembly, - as I already have soldered battery lead extension wires from the original coin battery's pins/traces on the board in the past (installed a battery holder in the past with extension wires from the pcb for easier access). So all I needed to do was (while the mpc was off), connect and twist those 2 battery wires, turned on the mpc and let it boot up, then turned it back off, and disconnected the shorted wires. Idk if I'm supposed to leave it connected and shorted; so I just undid it. Anyone know if it's ok to just leave those two battery leads shorted/connected?
..anyways, so far so good and it's been a week with not a single freeze. I'm not sure what really fixed it out of those 3 things..but if I were to guess (from assuming that past reseating of the plugs fixed it; but only temporarily), I think the lubing of the pins did it.
